HMMSA is honored to have worked alongside World Affairs Council of San Antonio to bring author of the Zookeeper's Wife, Diane Ackerman, to San Antonio for a special event. Thank you to the San Antonio Zoo and the Twig Book Shop!
@worldaffairssa @sanantoniozoo
Thank you @MananaZoo for your remarks and for hosting. You and your team at the @SanAntonioZoo were superb and look forward for more collaboration!
What an incredible evening. Last night the World Affairs Council hosted an event at San Antonio Zoo. The event featured distinguished author Diane Ackerman.
Beyond all of her other amazing writings she wrote the book ‘The Zoo Keeper’s Wife”. The true story of how the keepers of the Warsaw Zoo saved hundreds of people from Nazi hands.
The time is 1939 and the place is Poland, homeland of Antonina Zabinski and her husband, Dr. Jan Zabinski. The Warsaw Zoo flourishes under Jan's stewardship and Antonina's care. When their country is invaded by the Nazis, Jan and Antonina are forced to report to the Reich's newly appointed chief zoologist, Lutz Heck. The Zabinskis covertly begin working with the Resistance and put into action plans to save the lives of hundreds from what has become the Warsaw Ghetto.
An Evening with Diane Ackerman - in partnership with the Holocaust Museum of San Antonio. 🌟
Join us for an unforgettable evening with Diane Ackerman, author of The Zookeeper’s Wife. Explore the remarkable true story of courage, compassion, and quiet defiance during WWII.
