出席WAEN的会议总有不少收获🙏 其领导团队很专业也很敬业。 这是我的文字稿,但我不习惯念稿子,所以即兴讲的不全。 Title: Advocating for Human Rights and Freedom in Challenging Environments The Extreme Price Paid by Female Activists   I. Looking back 13 years ago at this time, In October 2013, I hosted an international conference in Toronto. The theme was "Together We Lead the Change". More than 160 people participated Ministers and politicians from Canada, the EU and Japan gave speeches. I chaired the opening ceremony. When I walked off the stage, a participant said, "I saw your photos. Very pretty." I was confused. He opened his email and showed me: three fake nude photos of me. Then I learned: many people at the conference got the same email. After that, then more versions came. They looked more and more real. They even put male friends who support me into those fake pictures. Even today, people still post them on X and Facebook. SO, as a woman fighting communist tyranny, terrorism and extremism, this is the most real — and the most painful — way they attack us. II. To the women here women here today — from Afghanistan, Iran, India, Pakistan and more. We fight for freedom, democracy and human rights — for your people, for your homelands, for world peace. Many of you may face the same situation, because you stood up to resist. We fight for all people can live with dignity and freedom. But we ourselves cannot escape being stripped, shamed, bullied, harassed, humiliated, abused, or even killed. I am one of you and you are one of us. III. Who am I? 1989 and exile I come from a family persecuted by communist tyranny for three generations. From birth, I—along with my family—have been an enemy of the CCP's tyranny. In 1989, during the Tiananmen massacre, I joined the resistance. I saw the killing. I survived. Two months after the massacre, I said goodbye to my parents and came to Canada — I had no one I knew here — with a broken heart. When I landed at Pearson Airport, I thought: I finally escaped. I am finally safe. I am finally free of fear. But reality hit me hard, very soon. 1/3 @WorldAEN

The Extreme Price Paid by Female Activists 2/3 IV. I take action twenty days later and the attacks began I soon learned: exile is not the end of fear. It is the start of another fight. And it was my choice. I knew that In Canada, I had the right to live a normal life — study, work, make money, travel, grow flowers, stay away from sensitive issues. But I could not. I could not ignore the suffering, persecution, killings, darkness, and despair there. I cannot ignore the fact that the people there live without dignity, human rights, or freedom. Twenty some days after I arrived in Toronto, I joined the fight against the CCP. Soon a threatening letter came: inside were three pictures of beautiful women, their faces and bodies scratched through with a pen. My name and phone number were written on the walls of men's washrooms in Toronto's Chinatown. Then came suspicion, blame and lies inside our own circle. Then I was pushed out of the Chinese community. In May 2008, a huge earthquake hit Wenchuan, China. The government should have focused on saving lives. Instead, it published an important article, naming me and five other overseas Chinese dissident leaders as "scum of the Chinese nation". It pushed us to the opposite side of the whole country. V. The same script everywhere I know some of you also carry the accusation of "betraying" your country, your people, your faith. Dictators say: I AM the country. I AM the faith. So to resist them is to "betray" the country and the faith. The CCP does this. The Taliban does this. The Iranian regime does this. All tyrannies use the same script. 2/3 @WorldAEN

The Extreme Price Paid by Female Activists 3/3 VI. The price: a catalogue of attacks After arriving in Canada, I continued to fight against the CCP's tyranny. I am a poet, writer, journalist, editor, commentator, China expert, human rights defender, humanitarian rescuer. I even acted in a few films and plays. However, the activities and related matters concerning resistance against communist tyranny and the fight for human rights for the enslaved took up the majority of my time. At the same time, attacks, slander, and insults have constantly dogged me. Besides the nude photos: countless posts and emails online, three or four books written only to attack me. They used my identity to book houses, buy cars, order services. In the last two years, they sent bomb threats in my name and email — I have received more than one hundred confirmation replies. They also know how to use Canada's laws and free speech. From November 2015 to April 2016, a man stood in front of Parliament in snow and ice for five months, giving every visitor a flyer calling me a Chinese spy. I called the police four times. Police said it was free speech. Ottawa police talked to him for less than ten minutes. Then he sued me in Ontario court — for ten million dollars. He sent the court papers to the Governor General, the Prime Minister, and all Members of Parliament. For five months, in snow and ice, a man stood in front of Parliament calling me a spy. Police said it was free speech. Then he sued me — for ten million dollars. VII. The heaviest pain: my mother No matter how strong you are, they will find your softest spot. After my mother passed away, they even organized people to insult and defame her. This became the forever pain in my heart. I have helped so many people. But I could not protect my own mother. Every time I think of this, my heart hurts. Sometimes I am even glad she has left the world — she did not see the worst hurt and shame I suffered. Luckily, I am stronger than they thought. I am still here. Still speaking." IX. For young people: three things 1.  Write it down. Recording is resistance. 2.  Find your team. Don't fight alone. 3.  Don't ask if it is safe to speak. Ask: can I live with not speaking? " X. Build our alliance — this matters most Dictators know the importance of building alliances. We should build ours even more stronger. The CCP, the Taliban, the Iranian regime use the same methods. The fact that you are all sitting here today is itself the answer. XI. To you: you are brave To people living under totalitarianism, extremism and terrorism — especially Afghans under the Taliban's shadow: I understand your pain. You are so brave. XII. Pass the fire. Build alliances across communities. When freedom is locked up and human rights are taken away, you will stand up. You will become the guardians of human dignity. The question is not whether the environment is challenging. It always is. The question should be: who will still be standing, speaking and taking action when it is? 3/3 @WorldAEN
