✂️ Tackling the cost of living by cutting energy prices and lifting tax thresholds
💰 The money is there.
✊ We propose a wealth tax on the richest 1%, equalising Capital Gains Tax with Income Tax rates; taxing excess profits of the banks and
restoring Corporation Tax to 2010 levels

😟 Some bosses are telling Unite negotiators that uncertainty around the Iran war means they can’t afford a decent pay rise.
📈 But Unite Investigates research on the major stock exchanges tells a different story. The 17 firms that have published results recently on the London Stock Exchange took home a combined £25 billion in profit in just three months! That's £3.1 billion more than they made in last year's equivalent quarter 💰💰
Many companies that employ Unite members can well afford a decent rise. Check unitetheunion.org/fandf (p48) and use Unite’s tools like Financial Insider to get the real picture on your employer

⏰ Brits are working longer hours than we did 15 years ago. And we are paying for it with our health.
😓 Long hours lead to stress, fatigue, mental health issues, a reliance on processed foods – leading to obesity…
😁 Shorter working hours are good for us. And they are even associated with better workplace productivity.

Supermarket profits are booming — but workers are still struggling 💸🍞 😡
Food prices have soared 40% in just four years, while Tesco’s operating profits have jumped 72%.
“While workers and their families, including Tesco’s own workers, are still struggling with rampant food inflation, Tesco is paying out millions in shareholder dividends and their executive pay has soared. This sort of rampant profiteering is simply a disgrace, and it must be stopped” @UniteSharon

😲 The average worker has lost £65k since the financial crisis in 2008.

So, next time a well-paid director or politician tells you to ‘tighten your belt’ you know how to respond.
We have a long way to go for workers to recover all that lost income.

📊 The minimum wage rise doesn't even keep up with inflation. So workers who are already struggling, will struggle even more. The minimum wage is the very minimum an employer can legally get away with paying you. It is not a living wage.
Governments will never manage to boost workers' wages as effectively as trade union action can.
