Greatest of all time

Messi is one of just two players to play in three World Cup Final matches (the other being Cafu). If things had turned out slightly differently in two of these matches, Messi would have equalled Pele's record of three World Cup victories. Honestly, he carried Argentina every time. It's a measure of his greatness that he even managed to drag Argentina to three finals over the course of his career. Genuinely sad he lost, the storyline of back to back World Cup victories at the age of 39 would have just been unparalleled in the history of sport. We are witnessing a once in a century player. Cricket still has not produced a player as good as Don Bradman and it's been nearly 80 years. Donald Bradman retired in 1949 with a career Test batting average of 99.94. The next highest completed career average for a player with more than 20 matches is just 61.87 by Adam Voges. 77 years and there is still a Don Bradman shaped gap in cricket. There is a strong chance that in 80 years time there will still be a Messi sized gap in football. We shall not see his likes again
