Today I have a sad story to share. What you see here is a spatial memory I captured 1 year ago using @WistLabs an app that turns videos into 3D memories you can experience on mobile Quest or Vision Pro. Last week, I found a Reddit post saying the App would shut down. I had the pleasure of interviewing Andrew McHugh in XR AI Spotlight and witnessing a passionate, talented founder building the future and what today STILL feels like inevitable. Isn't this what Apple is enabling when open-sourcing SHARP? Don't they want our memories to leave our phones and be experienced and relived, rather than trapped inside screens? Building products and experiences people love and return to is hard and it always hurts to see such passion and hard work come to an abrupt end, but the 2 last sentences of the announcement are what stuck with me: "I've spent the last five years building a memory platform while spending way too many late nights and weekends away from my family" A simple reminder about the things that matter.
