Once described as having a mind like a butterfly on LSD. Many diverse (and geeky) interests. Dislike bad manners and most TV. Also at @utterlybats.bsky.social

The majority of the drawings created by the late Trevor Grimshaw are quite small, postcard sized pieces. This piece titled cobbled bridge is a truly monumental drawing. #trevorgrimshaw #northernart

William Nicholson was always torn between the need to paint society portraits and his love for still lifes and landscape painting. His admiration of Manet is evident in this still life - the eye is led into the picture’s depth by the black pansy, the title of this work from 1910.

'Lunch.' (1988) Joanna Carrington reinvented herself as a naïve painter after seeing the pictures of Alfred Wallis. She signed her work using the pseudonym Reginald Pepper and went on to huge success even after her real identity was exposed by the Sunday Times in 1981.

There's an almost ineffable sense of harmony and lyricism that characterises Zinaida Serebriakova's work. This is a portrait of her son Evgeny from 1917. Several years after the October Revolution, she moved to Paris and didn't see Evgeny for 40 years, 8 months before she died.

'Request Stop, Hampstead.' (c1950) Stephen Bone painted a world full of charm. His style went out of fashion for some years but is again gaining popularity. If you are wondering about the colour of the bus sign, white bus signs with a red circle indicated 'compulsory' stops.

The very fist days of the 'Zebra Crossing' in 1951. Amazingly, despite them being in action for 75 years, some people still haven't quite got the hang of them. ⏳️
