The point about Tomb Raider was explicitly the gameplay-- people are using the gameplay elements of a series that is heavily based on its lore as an argument for why a film that may feature them is accurate to the source material.
Besides the fact that Cregger's film doesn't even properly adapt the gameplay elements from RE, even if it did, that would make it also a Silent Hill movie, or an Outlast movie or an Evil Within movie.
RE does NOT constantly introduce characters, not in the sense you (and everyone else who has made this tired claim) mean. Every mainline RE game features characters from RE1 and RE2.
It could have been an Outbreak story, if it was actually visibly and obviously set in the RE universe. Turns out, it's not, so it's not. Call this movie "The Human Tumbleweed" literally nothing changes about it.

except RE7 takes place in the same continuity, respects previous events, AND a main character from the first game shows up later in the story and stars (pun intended) in the DLC. Stop trying this bullshit.
I so much love this take because it completely exposes the double standard towards the new Resident Evil reboot.
If you refuse to consider the 2026 film a real entry just because it ditches the OG heroes for a bumbling everyday courier, then by that exact logic, you have to throw out Resident Evil 7 too.
The gaming community universally praises RE7 as a masterpiece, completely forgetting that it took the exact same massive gamble by introducing Ethan Winters, a totally normal guy with zero combat training, no ties to Umbrella, and enemies that weren't standard zombies. Shifting the camera to an ordinary civilian isn’t an insult to the lore; it is literally the exact narrative blueprint that successfully saved the video games a decade ago and did the exact same for the movie franchise.

hilarious how apparently many RE fans don't play the games and only watch videos about the Lore. The very same Lore that, despite apparently captivating even non-gamers, is not worthy of honest adaptation.

You know, you can like Cregger's Resident Evil adaptation without disparaging RE fans who are upset about it. I really like the Fallout TV show but I know Fallout fans who have a lot of problems with it. I don't tell them they're wrong to complain just because I like it. I'm not pompous enough to tell a fandom how they are supposed to feel about adaptations of thier loved material.
can't say i'm surprised, but to everyone calling the whole fanbase toxic, would love to see your reaction to Hollywood fucking up your favorite franchise for over 20 years and then when a competent director comes along he says it will have little to do with the franchise at all.
