In 2009 I was bleeding cash and living on credit cards. The day I realized I was not going to be able to pay them back AND I knew the credit card companies would figure that out... I went on a mad spending spree, I saw concerts in the front row, went to Europe on vacation, and had my house painted/new roof/landscaping. Best six months of my life (financially). I did anything I could to acquire things that couldn't be taken in a Bankruptcy (like memories and a new roof). Those are the things being done by millions of people today. Thats why auto sales are plummeting (a car will be repossessed when you don't make your payment), it's why air travel is skyrocketing, it's why restaurants are packed. Nobody is going to repossess your $200 meal or take the memory of the concert you saw from the front row...
