@Windscribe WTF guys 🤣🤣🤣
Bill C-22 makes Canada an untenable place for most tech companies to operate in, foreign and domestic. With trade uncertainty already hanging over the Canada-U.S. relationship, and a government that says it wants foreign investment, there has never been a better time to fix (delete) this misguided bill. It is in direct conflict with attracting the capital our government claims to want, and literally forces existing Canadian companies to take their taxable revenue elsewhere.
More than 20 Canadian and European tech companies and organizations sent an open letter urging the Canadian government to amend Bill C-22 before it becomes law.
The bill could leave Canadians’ data less secure, undermine encryption, and make Canada a harder place for tech companies to invest and grow.
“A backdoor for law enforcement is a backdoor for everyone.”

Urgent: Canadian surveillance bill C-22 has passed the House and is heading to the Senate in September.
@jdtabish and Chamber of Progress are leading an open letter campaign to stop it in its current form. If this passes as-is, Canada becomes a much less competitive place for companies like Windscribe and many others, and it will do real damage to the economy.
If you’re a founder of a Canadian company or serve Canadian customers, email Josh
([email protected]) and sign the open letter.
Deadline is August 28. There’s still time to make a real difference.
Looks like the EU is following the Canadian playbook, of rushing a massive privacy violation through, 1 day before they go on a summer vacation.
Why do MPs even get the summer off? What are they... children? If so, why don't we let actual children pass laws, they would probably be better at it.
On Thursday, the European Parliament votes on Chat Control 1 (the voluntary scanning, not the mandatory scanning, called Chat Control 2). Again.
The Parliament has already voted against Chat Control 1. Two times. But the Council of Ministers and the Parliament President refuse to accept it.
Now, the Council has demanded an urgent procedure. This is a procedure that is meant to be used for new legislative proposals, not proposals that the Parliament has already rejected. An urgent procedure requires an absolute majority to be rejected (361 out of the Parliament's 720 members). This will be difficult to reach, since those who abstain from voting are counted as a yes-vote in an urgent procedure. By scheduling the vote during the summer, they are making it even harder to reach those 361 no-votes. This is downright dirty tactic by the Council and the President of the European Parliament.
The President of the European Parliament has sided with the Council against her own chamber. For context, this is the EP President, Roberta Metsola:

With the upcoming social media ban bill, what the government appears to be saying is: "You are too stupid to use the tools Apple and Google provide FOR FREE to control what your kids have access to online, so we will do it for you."
That in itself is insulting, but that's not the true aim of this government. They couldn't give a single solitary hockey puck about that. The true aim is quite simple: Force social networks, and then all other online service providers to ID all users (with 3D face scans). Then:
- Bill C-22 forces providers to keep this data for 12 months, and make it available to the government.
- Bill C-9 criminalizes what you can and cannot say online, with penalties up to 10 years and seizure of assets.
- Bill C-8 allows a random government bureaucrat to cut you off the Internet, no court order needed.
Together these bills create a dystopian nightmare Orwell could not even imagine. Here is a scenario.
You post criticism of a government policy. Government calls it 'hate material'. C-22 metadata retention flags your activity and hands your identity and metadata (contacts, timings, locations) to authorities. You get prosecuted under C-9, facing up to 10 years in prison and asset seizures. A bureaucrat also issues a C-8 order cutting you off the internet entirely, while you await trial. Not that you care, as you're probably in jail, likely with no bail.
This post can likely be labeled "hate speech" given how loose and ambiguous the standards are.

C-22 is a mistake. Not one part of it, the entire direction. ( Same for C-9 )

The government’s lawful access bill may push Canada's privacy and security companies out of the country. On this week’s Law Bytes podcast, the CEOs of @Tailscale and @windscribe speak out on Bill C-22’s metadata retention and encryption backdoor risks.

Now is the last chance for Canadians to urge their MPs to reject Bill C-22, the Lawful Access Act. This bill will give government and police easy access to your private internet data.
Find your MP's contact details here: ourcommons.ca/Members/en/sea… urge him or her to oppose this surveillance legislation.
@signalapp, @NordVPN, @windscribe, and @ProtonVPN are among the companies that will withdraw their services from Canada if Bill C-22 passes.
If passed into law, Bill C-22 will allow the government to:
- order companies to develop capacity for organizing and extracting your data for law enforcement review
- order companies to install devices that feed your information to government and law enforcement
- order companies to retain your data for up to one year
issue orders in secret.

To all the confused Canadians out there who think Bill C-22 is a good idea, allow me to explain this in a way you may understand.
Imagine the government tells you to wear a mask to prevent the spread of an infectious diseases. Sounds kinda reasonable.
Now imagine the same government then says these masks must be made from used pillow cases, to protect the environment and help curb the spread of racism because pillow cases were used by the KKK to make hoods.
This is what Public Safety Canada is essentially doing right now with Bill C-22 (and C-9).

Christine Lagarde wants you to believe this is about efficiency, inclusion, and safety.
It isn’t.
It’s a massive power shift upward.
But the big question is - did you vote for this?

The "VPN Trust Initiative" by @i2Coalition is a total joke.
A "founding member" is now facing 2 class action lawsuits for deceptive billing practices, which is a clear violation of VTI Principles, which are "the cornerstone of the VPN Trust Initiative—established to define what ethical, secure, and privacy-respecting VPN service should look like in practice.". LOL!
topclassactions.com/lawsuit-…
It's also rather funny that almost all their members are in violation of at least one of these "principles".
This is why Windscribe does not participate in these BS groups that only serve the member companies so they can shaft more users.
