When Krugman thinks you’re running too large a deficit and the bond vigilantes have it right, it might be time to worry.

I hope the images of Zohran Mamdani having people who claim to be pro-Palestine screaming at him in public and calling him a traitor for attending an October 7th vigil will finally wake people up to what I have been warning about for years.

People rightly talk about 2008 as a watershed moment in the degradation of public services and state capacity in Britain, as well as 2010 (the start of austerity) but when you actually look at the figures, 2015/16 is when the real crisis numbers start appearing.

Most of the young people chanting "Long Live Hamas" - against Israelis for Peace in NYC last night - are white liberal kids whose brains have been destroyed by a fusion of Maoism and decolonisation theory 👇🏽time for the left dissociate totally from this
NOW: "Long Live Hamas!" chants as protesters stormed and confronted the 'Israelis For Peace' vigil held at USQ, organizers say they hold the vigil regularly for the hostages and for Gaza.

Inheritance tax brings in less than a single percentage point of tax and is entirely avoided by the actually rich. It just helps offshore wealth which would otherwise generate more taxes and growth, and randomly punishes families who aren't canny enough to avoid it.
The people who believe Inheritance Tax is immoral believe all taxes are immoral. They will argue for and support any tax cut.
But, in the real world, we do have to tax something to run a government.
And governments have to make a choice about the income sources of those taxes, and the scale of the tax that is applied, based on moral and economic factors.
In the Right Way, @KemiBadenoch rightly argued that any tax cuts should be prioritised on work and investment.
So why are the @Conservatives pledging to cut inheritance tax? I don’t understand why the policies being proposed do not flow from the principles that have been articulated.
Already income from work is taxed at a much lower income threshold and a much higher rate than any form of inheritance.
Widening the gap further between taxation on work and inheritance is morally and economically flawed.

To understand why the Green Party motion on Zionism was unacceptable, just listen to the views of the woman behind the motion and who only joined the Greens to pass it
“We will continue until we dismantle Zionism from the world, from every country. They will be shunned and that time will come when they will be hunted in the same way the Nazi oppressor were …. It won’t happen without force”

Palestinians who oppose Hamas's terrorism are too often unwelcome in the pro-Palestine movement. That is the unfortunate reality.
It doesn't matter how outspoken you are about Israeli crimes against Palestinians, or even that you are Palestinian yourself. You can still be excluded, doxxed, and harassed simply for speaking out against Hamas.
The leaders of the pro-Palestine movement in the West have completely adopted Hamas's narrative. Question it, and you're out. Today, as some celebrate October 7, they'll call you a traitor for saying what should be obvious: murdering and kidnapping civilians is terrorism and a crime against humanity. It won't matter what else you've said or how long you've fought for Palestinian rights.

There are rightists who are desperate for "Islamism" to be the threat to Europe, but France is now burning thanks to labor unions and demands that there be no cutbacks in the welfare state. These are the real threats to Western Civilization.

“It’s important to pause and acknowledge just how extreme this is. The Green Party now opposes a two-state solution to Israel and Palestine. This puts it at odds with the United Nations, the EU, and with all of Britain’s allies. It is even more extreme than the Palestinian Authority. […] The Green Party is now an extremist party.”
The Green Party motion on Zionism is antisemitic from first principles, extremist in its call for Israel to be eliminated, and likely to be anti-Jewish in its impact. A grim day for British Jews. everydayhate.substack.com/p/…

America has its own version of the original Ali G.
He’s a comedian who dresses in awful jackets and chinos and organises supposedly serious interviews with notable figures and then just takes the piss out of them by saying the most outrageous things deadpan.

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.
