Why don’t flats sell anymore? The Times highlights soaring service charges and the building safety crisis. Nearly a decade after Grenfell, mortgage barriers and endless remediation delays continue to destroy lives and livelihoods.

The Remediation Bill will be presented to Parliament today. We’ll examine the Bill and supporting documents closely. But our serious concerns remain. Labour must finally get a grip: make every affected home fully safe, protect all residents and leaseholders, and end the harm.

We all believe in fires safety however how many of us believe in the UK fire safety regs ? There is too many ppl making too much money out of leaseholders to actually tell us the truth. Is my cladding safe ? I no longer know but what I do know is I’m paying thru the nose.
Fire doors in my apartment block in France. No BS stamp ok the hinge. No intumescent strip. It has a door closer. No fire check officer earning more than teachers and nurses fee baked into service charge.

Nobody looking at the volume of these figures among the big six builders can think these are random failures, this is systematic failure of building control and enforcement of building safety standards over probably 20-30 years.

MHCLG’s dashboard shows which developers missed the 80% target – and by how much. But there is still no clarity on what consequences they will face.

No listed developer met the target to start or complete work on 80% of buildings by July 2026. @mhclg says, “failure to meet their contractual obligations risks enforcement action, including being prohibited from carrying out major development.” But consequences there are none.

Exactly. Developers miss the targets they agreed with Government, yet face no meaningful consequences. Nothing has changed. It's business as usual and an unrelenting focus on the needs of industry. And Labour insists the building safety crisis has not been deprioritised...

Since the end of January this year, the cladding backlog rose 12% to 4,697 blocks. The lack of urgency to help leaseholders is debilitating for those trapped both physically, mentally and financially. Despite progress on completed projects; up 22.2%, the mounting number of blocks in need of work, still face 33 weeks for the Building Safety Regulator to approve remediation applications before any work can begin and that’s if a contractor is available thenegotiator.co.uk/news/reg…

Hey Siri…..show me a story that highlights serfdom and feudalism Britain today. Sure…….its called being a Leaseholder. @mhclg @AngelaRayner @andyburnham @EOCS_Official
George's home has been without hot water or heating for more than six months and his wife is recovering from major surgery. The developer of their block has since gone into liquidation, leaving the companies involved unable to agree who should pay to fix problems with the gas pipes. Now George, 31, says he's been told to pay a lump sum of almost £4000 in service charges -including a “debt collection fee” of £1,000 - within a day. Grangeford says the leaseholders are in “in breach of lease” for not paying their service charges - which residents deny. It has not responded to requests for comment. The cladding and building safety scandal ruined my life for 8 years. Its impacts will never leave me. But I’m one of the lucky ones. So many people are still living with this nightmare. How are we still failing this many people? It’s an absolute disgrace.
Government’s latest developer data confirms an abject failure. Developers promised to start or complete work on 80% of their buildings by July 2026. Their (self-reported) data shows just 53% have started or completed – and only 23% are complete. 🧵

#Grenfell was 9 years ago. Behind these failed numbers delivered by members of @HomeBuildersFed to fix unsafe homes, there are families trapped and financially stressed. Every building has a number of sad and preventable stories. @EOCS_Official @AngelaRayner @andyburnham @mhclg
The message is clear: building more homes has been prioritised over making existing homes safe. Despite the missed targets, self-reported data and years of delay, there is still no meaningful change in @mhclg's approach. Warm words. Weak oversight. Unsafe homes.

What strikes me with these abject numbers and failure for @HomeBuildersFed to fix the unsafe homes they built is that they represent the same firms @mhclg will look to incentivise with our taxes to “build baby build”. We live in interesting times. @AngelaRayner @mtpennycook
Afraid to say we’re still among the 854 buildings where remediation hasn’t started, and there’s still no plan in place. @AngelaRayner

Shame and name. @TelfordHomes @CBRE @CBRE_UK 7% completion in fixing unsafe buildings. 9 years later. Money still matters more than the safety of people who buy their homes it seems and @mhclg @mtpennycook @AngelaRayner are happy to tolerate this? @EOCS_Official
