A 3-year-old and a 6-year-old were stabbed around 50 times in their own home, and police say their mother did it. Taylor Gosnell, 35, of Cowpens, South Carolina, is charged with two counts of attempted murder. Some of the wounds went all the way to the bone, and her 6-year-old son may lose fingers and possibly his arm. When she came back to the house with deputies still there, she was sent for a mental health evaluation and tried to run from the ambulance. The Supreme Court just gave the Trump Administration the green light to deport people to third countries where they have no connection and that have documented records of human rights abuses. Some people have subsequently been sent to their countries of origin, where they face the threat of persecution, torture, and death. This decision undermines longstanding U.S. and international protections meant to prevent people from being returned to places where they face serious danger. This cruel and inhumane policy is a black eye on Lady Liberty. We are a nation that promises to welcome the "poor" and "huddled masses" yearning for freedom. Instead, we are sending vulnerable people into harm’s way — and, in some cases, potentially to their deaths. This is shameful and illegal.
