IMPORTANT The campaign for a GCSE in Natural History has stalled. Labour see it as a "Conservative initiative" and won't progress it. It is not a political football, every child has the right to learn about the wonder of the natural world. Plse ask you MP to lobby for it now. π

Why is the world afraid of long grass/meadows? For those adopting a #NoMowSummer, I applaud youπ You are setting the standard & 100% helping your local wildlife. Since we are no longer in May, Iβm conscious the mowers are being dusted off, so Iβd just like to say #JuneIsTooSoon

Please donβt mow or spray the dandelions. They are a lifeline for pollinators including bees, butterflies, hoverflies. They support over 50 insect species. Our little film shows the life in a small patch π

WONDERFUL! A farmer happy to farm and coexist with Beavers. Well done @DougWanstall! @gow_derek @BeaverTrust

Iβm a farmer, we have beavers in the area & I am very pleased we do. Farmers need to work out a way to manage land in harmony with nature not consider it a threat. We are entering a new paradigm in land management & the choice will be either work with nature or exit the industry

Instead of allowing the use of bee-killing pesticides, we would like to see @GovUK support farmers who are working towards transitioning away from the use of harmful chemicals.

A single beaver pond holds an estimated 1.1 million gallons of water and recharges underlying aquifers with an even greater amount of water.

Probably lauded as the greatest autumn for twitching rare birds I wonder just how many people look and realise just how devoid of birds most British habitats are now

The hedge on the left is managed every year. The one on the right has been left for several years. The same species, a hugely different outcome for local habitat diversity & richness because of the cover, nectar & berries. It doesn't always have to be the way it was in the past.

After returning from northern France, the lack of biodiversity/insect life in the UK is shocking. I canβt possibly convey the difference in one tweet so hereβs a π§΅of just how nature depleted we are, even though the landscape, climate & species (historically) are almost identical β at Pays de la Loire, France

I have spent the last two years of my life working on researching this species in a British context so it was quite relieving to see my colleagues and I covered in the Guardian today!
