Aberfan | 60 years ago today 💔 On 21 October 1966, a coal waste tip at the top of Aberfan collapsed and engulfed Pantglas Junior School and surrounding houses, 116 children and 28 adults were killed.
On what was the last day of school before half term, children were settling down to lessons when tragedy struck at 9:13am. Emergency services, miners and people who rushed to the village began an around-the-clock battle to dig out those trapped by the debris. Mair Morgan, the last surviving teacher at the school, still remembers having to identify the children who died. A devastating tragedy that could have been easily prevented. At the top of Aberfan today, you can see the gleaming white flagstones in the memorial for those whose lives were taken - a poignant and permanent reminder of this tragedy. The heart-wrenching thought that the children who died would be around 65-70 years old today with a life of memories surrounded by some family/friends they never got to meet. 144 lives taken and a community that is forever darkened by the tragic events that Friday morning. Survivors, bereaved parents and members of the community attended a short prayer and a moment of silence this morning at Aberfan Memorial Garden, which stands on the site of Pantglas School. They’ll always be in our hearts. Never forgotten. Wales remembers. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿❤️

The boys. 🖤🤍

🦢 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞 𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗗-𝗨𝗣 🇰🇷 Eom has thrived at the Asian Games 2026 scoring a hat-trick in their tournament opener against Qatar U23s. He has also featured as a substitute in the following two games winning both and advancing into the knockouts. 🇮🇪 Adam Idah scored for Ireland last night with a brilliant finish as they won 3-0 against Israel. The best way to silence the awful racist abuse he faced from the disgusting Israeli supporters. Well done Adam…🫡 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 / 🇸🇮 Stephen Welsh started on his international debut against Zan Vipotnik’s Slovenia in the Nations League. Zan was on the bench and came on in the 74th minute but Stephen Welsh managed to keep the clean sheet on his debut with a solid performance. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Ben Cabango started for Wales away in Portugal as we were narrowly defeated 1-0 to Jorge Jesus’ side. Ben kept Ronaldo quiet before coming off due to an injury. 🇳🇿 Elijah Just and Marko Stamenic were a part of the New Zealand side that won 3-0 in a friendly against China. Both playing well with Elijah Just also getting an assist. 🇨🇦 / 🇨🇱 Lawrence Vigouroux started in goal in a friendly against Stephen Eustaquio’s Canada who later came off the bench. Vigouroux managed to keep Chile in the game but Eustaquio helped the Canadians see out the win. 🇨🇿 Filip Lissah just won’t stop. After a phenomenal start to the campaign breaking into the first team, he has now gone and scored his first international goal for Czech Republic U21s. Absolutely delighted for him. The Jacks performing on the international stage once again…🔥
