Think this is the last straw for us with @Skytv. Have been customers for over 25 years but we pay far too much for a service that has been out all day (apart from live TV via satellite). We can halve our costs by using Now TV and freesat.

I suspect the reason Ms Reeves is exempting those on state pension only from being taxed on the tiny proportion of their pension above the PA threshold is because there is no easy way to tax them at source. All state pension payments are paid gross by the DWP.
Those who have any other pension income are taxed under PAYE by whoever administers their pension scheme. This means that those who have any kind of additional pension entitlement will be taxed on more of their state pension than those who only have state pension.

Very sad to hear of the death of Jilly Cooper. I have fond memories of lying in front of the gas fire in my bedroom in the late 70s completely absorbed in one of her early novels (Emily I think). I met her once, briefly, a few years later. She was lovely.
