The camp leaders also said: we can show you the graves. And we drove with them through a dusty field on the outskirts of the camp to the site where they bury the dead. Graves like these are the true measure of DOGE and the new US humanitarian model. /end

They brought us to talk to camp residents who had lost friends and neighbors last year, when the US gave even *less* for Sudan than they have this year. These families gave wrenching accounts about watching people they knew dying as US-funded projects were suspended.

What does this mean for the people there? I asked camp leaders in Gozalaslam camp whether the aid cuts since last year had killed people. They nodded vigorously and said “ktir, ktir” (many, many). Children starved, women with labor complications were unable to get basic care.

Worse still, current food stocks are due to run out at year’s end due to funding gaps. Uncertain whether they will have supply beyond December. Related: US (biggest WFP donor) funding to Sudan dropped from 2024 to 26 by $368m, as WFP funding dropped from $620m to $276m.

Meanwhile the World Food Programme has had to massively cut back its food deliveries in the world’s largest hunger crisis. They are struggling to even provide a half-ration to starving people, and are cutting out hundreds of thousands of refugees entirely.

I met Sudan’s heroic Emergency Response Rooms - brave community volunteers who have done amazing work throughout the war. They kept aid flowing in RSF-occupied areas even when int’l orgs pulled back. Until DOGE, that is. An ERR leader told me: “The USAID cuts broke our backs.”

Weird to read this as I am on a plane flying back from Sudan after spending days sitting in IDP camps talking to people about how this “new” US approach to humanitarian aid is working out. Rubio’s claim is “unequivocally” garbage. Let me share some of what I heard: 🧵
SECRETARY RUBIO: The one that is unequivocally better right now, by far, it's night and day, is humanitarian response. It is faster, more effective, and gets to the target way faster than ever before.

Rubio is uniquely evil in this administration
WATCH!! “What happened last night I don’t know exactly” — Rubio tells me he can’t confirm reports that Kyiv received no early warning before Russian ballistic missiles struck Kyiv overnight, citing a lack of information. He acknowledged a separate early-warning system software issue days earlier, but said the U.S. has not changed its diplomatic footprint in Kyiv 👇

Does it make sense to deport a man who overstayed a visa but otherwise has no criminal record when his deportation means shutting down a food pantry that serves meals to 7,000-8,000 needy people a month? Does choosing not to exercise discretion in his case make America greater?
FOOD PANTRY FOUNDER DETAINED: Days after a Bronx food pantry founder was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, community members and pantry volunteers are fighting for his return. #News12 #TheBronx #CommunitySupport #ICEDetention bit.ly/4zBiVFA

Russian Kosmos 2612 and ICEYE-X36 (providing Ukraine military support) are now in perfect sync with each other. The Russian military satellite is intentionally stalking and tracking the Western radar satellite. Keeping a satellite "bumper-to-bumper" in this manner allows Russia to intercept or jam data transmissions, physically inspect Western technology, or quickly pivot to execute a kinetic or non-kinetic anti-satellite (ASAT) attack with very little warning or fuel expenditure. Kosmos 2612 executed a series of highly precise, fuel-heavy maneuvers to force itself into a "coplanar" orbit—matching ICEYE-X36's exact altitude (~555 km), speed, and inclination (~97.8°). The ICEYE-X36 satellite is giving the Ukraine military support.

If you run a space company that sends remote sensing satellites to space, there is no bigger point of validation for your technology than having a Russian recon satellite burn a ton of fuel to match your orbit and follow you around. Congratulations to the engineering team at ICEYE.

The grand jury revealed the truth - and the lies. All of it now documented. Uthmeier responded with threats. But no one is going to bully this state or its watchdogs into silence about public money the jury said was misused. Read the report for yourself. orlandosentinel.com/2026/09/…

If The Republican Party wants to arrest people for discussing the “content and gist” of the grand jury report, they should start by calling for the arrest of James Uthmeier who discussed it on Fox News, among other places. Starting in this clip at 3:50 foxnews.com/video/6404203980…
BREAKING: The Republican Party of Florida wants a judge to pull a Democratic TV ad about the Hope Florida grand jury report. It says airing the report's "content, gist, or import" is now a crime. The lawsuit, filed at 11:36 p.m. Friday in Highlands County, targets the Florida Democratic Party, its three statewide candidates and 11 TV stations in Orlando and Tampa Bay. The party also referred the stations to FDLE and prosecutors. One copy went to the statewide prosecutor, who works in AG James Uthmeier's office. Uthmeier is the candidate the ad targets. What the lawsuit leaves out: - The grand jury report has been public since Aug. 26. - The appeals court ruling it relies on isn't final until Friday at the earliest. - The U.S. Supreme Court struck down part of the same secrecy law in 1990. Early voting starts Monday in many counties. floridatrident.org/florida-g…

This was how Trump spent his Saturday night. At Mar-a-Lago with corporate leaders and wealthy donors throwing millions of dollars at his super PAC because they want things in return, and are getting them. This is the overt decline of the United States!

Putin has incomparably more influence in the West Wing than he has in eastern Ukraine. Indeed, his only hope in eastern Ukraine sits in the West Wing.
The last time Trump criticized Putin was July 31st 2025, 443 days ago. The last time Trump criticized Zelenskyy is measured in hours, not days. The US taking the side of the aggressor is a truly terrible global strategic signal, and will destabilize the world for years to come.

I'm doing my usual Sunday morning live stream today at 9:30 am (ET) and I'll be talking about China. China's monthly exports to Russia rose to almost $14 bn in September. There'd be no war in Ukraine without China. Beijing is Putin's biggest enabler... open.substack.com/live-strea…

Praising an indicted war criminal and dictator who bombs civilian sites and kidnaps children to destroy a neighboring democracy. This is deplorable.
Vance: "I've never met Putin in person. I've spoken to him on the phone. He was calmer than you might expect. The American media has a stereotype of him. He's very deliberate and measured in his words. I think, at his core, he's someone who cares about Russia's interests as he sees them. One reason he respects the President is that he recognizes the President cares about the interests of the American people."

Let’s see if the russian musk bots are back online. I just watched the Musk Movie. It was 4 hours long. (@alexgibneyfilm) TY for putting in an intermission.) There was so much information. Its genre is documentary, but it could easily be put under horror also. It was a very good movie, but also psychologically terrifying. I have to say the first hour of the movie, brought back memories of the old Elon. The one that my husband and I really liked. He was quirky, funny, smart, the first spacex successful launches were awesome, when Tesla was new, and everyone was excited about the electric cars, him working with Obama and him saying that AI was an existential risk. It was like he truly cared about the human race. But then, he flips and turns into a villain. 😩 The last 3 hours he morphs into a psychotic megalomaniac. It was like an evil storm. The Tesla auto pilot starts crashing cars, killing people and then he lies about it & says how safe it is. He lost his shit during Covid with the lockdowns. His son transitioned into Vivian, and he said the woke mind virus needed to be destroyed. He went from AI being an existential threat & said it was summoning demons, to wanting to put an AI robot in every home. The government was regulating his businesses due to environmental concerns and he does not like being told what he can and cannot do. I really believe part of the reason he went after our govt, to control it, was because of regulations they were putting on him and his companies. He realized to remove these regulations he needed to control politics. This is why our govt should not be able to be bought by the richest man in the world. The Ashley St. Clair part of the story is crazy! I’m glad she is exposing all these details. It was brave of her to tell her story. She could have easily signed the NDA and been rich, she decided to do the right thing. We need more people like this. The doge part of the movie is devastating. Gutting really important humanitarian efforts, so many people, including children, around the world have died because of this. Halting scientific research projects, such as cancer research, that some have been working on for years. The purge of a lot of brightest and best from our govt departments, leaving dept frozen. Putting all our personal info in the hands of young kids who had idea what they were doing, who knows what will happen in the future now that all of info has been exposed. Cutting back at the EPA, surely helped his companies, but at what cost to our environment? Watching the first quarter, he really could have been an amazing part of America’s history, but then he threw it all away and chose to be a villain. Why risk the future well being of America, especially when you have so many children? He says children are the future, yet the administration HE installed is dangerous and threatens our future. It makes no sense. It’s like he has lost all empathy for others. Maybe he’s high all the time, which means we have a drugged up psychopath, who doesn’t care about anything but his own personal endeavors, no matter the consequences, and that same person is in charge of our government. What could go wrong? We left the movie scared about the future of the whole world.

Always remember, Dmitriev stole tens of millions of dollars from the Russian taxpayer to buy luxury properties in Monaco, France and Russia, using Cypriot offshore financial entities registered in his relatives' names. Lifting sanctions benefits him and his wife Natalya Popova directly. Here is Navalny's Anti-Corruption Foundation: "The total value of Dmitriev and Popova's French properties is 16 million euros, or one and a half billion rubles." Dmitriev is subject to EU sanctions. (He's also subject to U.S. sanctions, though they're waived to let him travel to Miami on a regular basis.) He'd love nothing more than for Trump to force a dismal deal on Ukraine that gets these sanctions lifted. Perhaps a future House inquiry into Kushner and Witkoff's pay-to-play diplomacy can delve into this under-discussed aspect of the Russian side of ongoing "peace" negotiations. blog.navalny.com/p/6683/
Putin's envoy Kirill Dmitriev is celebrating Trump's suspension of sanctions against Russia, calling it a "truly historic moment." Dmitriev also says Russia and the US are exploring cooperation on data centres. This looks like another Kremlin scheme to lure Trump into pressuring Ukraine to stop striking Russian data centres, including Yandex facilities. Moscow knows exactly how to exploit Trump's obsession with business deals. They're truly playing him like a fiddle.
