🇦🇷Just spent the past few days in Buenos Aires, witnessing how the blockchain industry is coming together to turn Argentina’s capital into a global crypto hub. My thoughts: I believe this movement, called Crecimiento (growth) is one of the most important instances of human coordination happening in crypto. The team identified three powerful forces: 1. The blockchain industry’s need for a hub in the west which has a network of existing crypto companies, talent, a market and users that are receptive to crypto 2. Argentina’s need to incentivize tech workers, founders and investors to stay and build in the country instead of having to flee abroad 3. A new government that supports free markets, innovation, individual freedoms — values that point to a potential for more crypto-friendly policies These forces combine to form a vision: Buenos Aires can become the global crypto friendly hub the blockchain industry needs, and that Argentina needs, for both to achieve their huge potential. That’s it. Not about any one project or chain or token, but about supporting growth for an entire industry and country. The vision is great and inspiring, but what’s remarkable is that in a short time (4-5 months) the team has been able to attract support from key stakeholders holders: securities regulators, lawmakers, government officials — all of who were engaged at the Aleph month-long pop up city, speaking with glowing words for crypto and innovation. What’s next? To see action come from all the positive signals and good will. One of the concrete goals is to create a sandbox for crypto companies to freely build. Another more ambitious one is that that eventually that could grow into a full fledged special economic zone. Those are hard challenges on their own. But the greatest challenge, especially given Argentina’s volatile history, will be to figure out how to secure this progress even if the next government is not as friendly. In any case, I am so rooting for this to work! Dale con todo Crecimiento! Tienen todo mi apoyo. Huge respect for @crecimientoar @juanbenet Emi, @fernandezdiego @HannaSchiuma Martin Tel, Mili, @lemoncheli @J_Tunningley @ocandocrypto and so many more making this happen Also, thanks to all who came to my book signing and talk!!
