The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducts Oasis on November 14, a year after a reunion tour that grossed about $405 million. Their first drummer, Tony McCarroll, goes in with them, and he gave up his royalties in 1999 for £550,000. He sued Oasis for £18 million. Noel and Liam never even came to court. In the video below, McCarroll says the manager rang to sack him the week Some Might Say became their first number one: "I think I got drunk for three years." He played on Definitely Maybe, the fastest-selling debut album in Britain at the time. He was sacked in April 1995, a few weeks after a row with Noel in Paris. His claim was a share of the 5-album deal with Creation Records, including 2 albums he never played on. He settled in March 1999. The £550,000 was a one-off payment that bought out his future royalty claims. The case for Noel and Liam: Noel wrote the songs and said, "I like Tony as a geezer, but he wouldn't have been able to drum the new songs." McCarroll calls the row with Noel "probably the most stupid thing I've ever done in my life." Before you sell your future royalties for one cheque, work out what they are worth if the band gets 10 times bigger without you.
