A #SWFC Observation (long post). Supporting the wider #SWFC community. I hope people realise I always try to be balanced and objective. One of the things that has struck me of late is the fund raising for Sheffield Wednesday Ladies to help them through their season. Now I know in time they may be supported by the club but at the minute they are not. The fund raising started by the @TheWedVoice has gone ok so far but I’m frustrated it’s not reached its goal. As a wider community we are great at getting behind initiatives but I’m also aware that because of “personalities” and playground falling out, some fund raising doesn’t get the support it needs. I will call out when things have been done well such as the brilliant fund raising @jakerowl and @SWFCTrust orchestrated to raise funds for season tickets and mascots. Brilliant initiative. Or the brilliant @TWWcast Making a massive impact with the work they do. When I think things can be done better or differently I will also challenge and raise questions in the right way. But when it’s needed we need to put aside our differences and whatever animosity there is across the SWFC communities, who we like it, don’t like should never come into supporting a good valuable cause that helps our community. We need to rise above all that and pull together for good causes and frankly supporting women and girls in sport is one of those. Women and girls who want to be proud to represent our club. Getting women and girls active is important in society and they will hopefully pass that on to their children in time. I have no ball in this game apart from having daughters who needed that support when they were children. I have a grand daughter who if she needs that support I hope it’s there. You may say why. Why arn’t parents or the ladies themselves paying. Well we don’t know their circumstances and I would not want to judge. It costs an awful lot to run any amateur football team. I know I’ve done it. To make sure they have the right kit, facilities, physios and support. When my son who is in his 30s played at under 9 and under 10 level, they had a girl play for them. I learnt so much from her parents about the struggle to support girls in football even then. BTW She was the best player in the team and the boys loved having her in their team. Over £1000 has been raised so far. Think of it this way. We have an active fan base of over 50,000 supporters. We only need 2% (1000) of those to donate £1 each to hit the target. Please spread this word, share widely. It doesn’t take much to make a massive difference and support our community, our ladies and girls that want to play football. We may be finding the next best England women’s player. You never know. Link below. @swfc @SWFCwsg @Owlsonline @Owlstalk @swfcsc @OwlsExtra @LGBT_Owls @swlfcofficial justgiving.com/crowdfunding/…
