Many of us are using AI to assist when building websites and web applications. AI can generate code very quickly, new features take shape in the blink of an eye. It can all feel a bit like magic.
That is, however, until it's time to test it. Read more - buff.ly/lNhkP4k
A11y Scanner v0.6.0 released, check out the release notes - a11y.webdepend.dev/changelog.
It's now possible to easily raise bugs in Testing Manager directly from A11y Scanner results. Each issue raised includes all occurrences of that issue including URL and location.

Next up for my A11y Scanner app is integrating with @testing_manager, this will enable users to raise nicely formatted bugs in Testing Manager directly from accessibility scans.
And then send the bug report onto Jira, Teamwork, Linear, ClickUp, Asana, etc.

New version of A11y Scanner released today.
With accessibility scans, the same issue can appear on multiple pages.
v0.5.0 includes being able to group these occurrences together as one issue, which helps turn an overwhelming report into a more manageable set of issues to fix.
Testers are still being told to ‘try to break’ an application, as though that’s a key objective of testing.
The application is already broken, what we’re doing by testing it is showing you where.

Latest version of A11y Scanner was released last week. This version adds a new method of starting a scan by scanning an XML sitemap to obtain a list of URLs. Includes support for nested sitemaps.

One of the tools I'm working on isn't original or groundbreaking, but is useful. It's an accessibility scanner called A11y Scanner, it scans entire sites and runs each page through Axe-core accessibility engine.
Check it out here - webdepend.dev/a11y-scanner/.

At WebDepend, we don't go in for all that 'Tester vs Developer' rubbish. We collaborate with developers, discuss our findings and be receptive to possible test ideas.
# developers
We’ve started developing a few tools and ideas to support our testing at WebDepend. We bundled some of them together and, a bit pretentiously, called it WebDepend Labs. Check it out - webdepend.dev/.

A person whose primary role is testing will almost always find more bugs than someone whose primary role is not testing, such as a designer, developer, engineer, product manager or project manager.
Those people will certainly find bugs, just not as many as a tester will find.
Testers don't break software, the broken parts are already there. Testers discover where and how the software breaks and then show their findings so those parts can be fixed.
Some bugs are harder to pinpoint than others, we investigate, discuss and pair up with devs to resolve.
When we test something, we're not just testing the code and we're not just looking for developer mistakes - we're testing everything - all the input from everyone involved that shaped the project to this point.

Bugs are great things to receive. Without them we have a false understanding of our application. Bug reports illuminate dark recesses and show the real state of your app. Received lots of bugs? Divide into prioritised groups and release fixes that make users happy.

The term 'manual testing' is misleading as there is no such thing as manual testing. There is Testing and within that there are different types of testing but 'manual testing' is not one of them. The closest term is Exploratory Testing.

'QA' as an abbreviation of Quality Assurance is a misleading term. A 'QA' person cannot assure software quality. They could 'assess' quality and, in that sense, they are called a Tester - nothing wrong with being a tester. 🙂

When a web project runs late and over budget, the instinct is to cut testing. It should be the opposite — test more, reduce scope, prioritise features, and test thoroughly. That's how you avoid launch failures and reputational damage.

Project managers are busy people and are also most likely to suffer from burnout.
There are many aspects that contribute to a project manager's workload and stress levels but one of the bigger ones, in our experience, is testing.

A problem that many #digitalagencies face - how much time should be estimated for testing?
Often, #testing is rushed, cut short or skipped entirely, leading to bugs escaping to production, unhappy clients, damaged reputations and effort to put it right.
