Our nation is failing to vaccinate Black Americans, even though they are disproportionately affected by COVID-19. We need to build a better, more equitable health system. politico.com/news/2021/06/07…
Tragically, the true number of lives lost to COVID-19 is far greater than reported. According to new estimates, it could be more than 900,000. npr.org/sections/coronavirus… How could our health system possibly miss hundreds of thousands of deaths?

It's painfully clear that our nation needs a new health data system. Without it, we will be lost in our fight against pressing health threats now and going forward.

The sliver of data that is available shows that communities of color are falling behind in vaccinations. That’s outrageous. Fueled by systemic racism, it’s abundantly clear that people of color are disproportionately getting COVID-19 and dying from it.

How is it possible that we can’t get equitable access to vaccines? We need a national health data system that is complete, comprehensive, and timely. Only then can we ensure equity.
