WAMU began newsroom changes this past May that leadership announced as an expansion in local journalism. What was missing in that announcement: WAMU also recently ousted two people essential to the local journalism it says it’s expanding.

Still processing this. Thanks @WeMakeWAMU for putting into words what I haven't been able to.
Ward 8 is home & why I created Voices of Wards 7 & 8, to tell our stories with care & purpose. I'll keep building something worthy of the people who call this community home!

We miss Inga every day in our newsroom & on the Politics Hour.
Along with Dee Dwyer, WAMU laid off Ingalisa Schrobsdorff, our senior politics editor.
That title doesn’t capture how many hats she wore. Inga, as many of us call her, was both our politics editor and the managing producer for The Politics Hour with Kojo Nnamdi.
We share these tributes to Inga and Dee because as the bargaining unit, we want to recognize how the work of each one of our colleagues uplifts each other, the station, and our listeners.

WAMU is continuing Voices without Dee. We believe it’s important to continue serving Southeast the way she did. But the truth is, that work would be much more difficult without her, without her beautiful photographs, ideas, and community connections.
Dee will still be in Southeast. We encourage you to follow her and her work if you aren’t already, on deedwyerjonts.com and her Instagram @deedwyerjonts.
Our union #WeMakeWAMU has a new collective bargaining agreement!
Earlier this week, SAG-AFTRA ratified its second three-year contract with WAMU and American University.
The contract covers Sept. 1, 2025 - Aug. 31, 2028.
Some wins include:
-continued annual pay increases, including a 2.5% increase in the contract's third year
-stipends for workers filling in for hosts
-increased notice or pay in the event of layoffs
-protections for reporters covering civil unrest
