Got a request for a recommendation letter from a student (I think) who sent an email with the salutation Dear, no name, no info except a 2 line request. I do not recognize the name at all so no. Worse, class portals have the procedure on how to ask. Failure to follow instructions

A thread: Today is the last day before moving to a new job, today I gave up on the dream of getting a TT job when I finally recycled all of the materials for research and teaching. I have already grieved at what I saw as a failure, but then I think that I never had a chance ...
I did not know who to ask for help. I tried, I gave it my best shot, because the one thing I knew how to do, and do well is teach. And I loved it, teaching is my, erm, was my passion. And now I have let go of that also.
I want people to know this is not a pity party, there were
Many factors that led to this outcome. Some under my control, many out of it. But tomorrow I will move forward and go to my new career a lot wiser, older and ready to learn, to ask for help, to succeed. Thank you to those that helped, supported me and cheered me on. 💓 #truth
I am happy to announce that I GOT THE JOB and will be leaving academia to start a new position at @uscensusbureau in the DC area. #altac I will miss my students but change is a part of growing as a professional.
