I know a lot of people won’t agree with with me but this has been a great and memorable year for the Cubs. Ultimately it is ending in disappointment but I’m very happy with how it played out.

I wish it would have ended up with them going farther in the playoffs but ultimately I’ll never forget all the excitement they gave us. It’s a good team that had a good year. Thank you Cubs

The thing about a game like this is that it makes me numb. Like if the Cubs just get swept tomorrow than it’s like whatever like the 2007 series against Arizona or 1998 against the Braves. Last years series against Milwaukee was 10x more upsetting to me.

This is exactly how I see WAR. I get accused of being tied to it but for instance, I have zero problem with Yordan winning the MVP even if he had a lower WAR than Witt because they were so close. But if Witt finished a full point ahead, that’d be different

Just a reminder for those who seem to think the extremes when it comes to WAR. 4.5 & 4.3 = consider basically the same. 4.5 & 3.5 = pretty close, good seasons w/a lean to 4.5 but how they amassed the WAR plays a role 4.5 & 1.9 = one of these players had a clear better season

I know it seems weird to some people but this is still actually a dent player with a bright future. What he has going for him is he’s probably a top 5-10 best glove at the most important position on the field ALONG WITH having been 5% above average thru his career at the plate.

In fact his ISO, last I checked is 29th in all of baseball and third amongst all primary shortstops (Abrams and Elly ahead) this year even while he’s striking out so much.

So while this is an ignominious accomplishment, we shouldn’t necessarily write this player off as a non valuable player. He’s worth close to 3 wins over replacement and every team needs a few players of that caliber.
