There is some patchy dense fog across the area this morning. The visibility may be reduced to less than a half a mile at times especially in the mountain valleys. If traveling before 8AM (June 6), please be prepared for sudden changes in the visibility.

There is a pretty good backup of morning traffic on highway 421 North coming up Boone mountain you may want to plan accordingly.

Use caution on these roads, heavy rain fall is causing ponding in the rutted parts of some roads. Driving in these areas can trigger hydroplaning. Pleas do not drive in flooded areas, turn around - don't drown.
Rain is producing some localized flooding. Boone Fire is rolling to water entering a house 1500 block Bamboo Rd. Be careful out there.

Cont'd...If you receive a call from a person representing themselves as a employee of our office please hang up on them and report this action to our office. The person is also using various different phone numbers with a 828 area code number.

We have had a few folks call into our County Communications Center today stating that they are receiving a phone call from a Deputy Walker or Lt. Walker from the Watauga County Sheriff's Office.
We DO NOT have a Lt. Walker or a Deputy Walker that works for us.
Boone Fire is going to close Deerfield Rd for a bit near Pine Valley to get a tractor trailer moving again. Should be only briefly as they get him untangled.
Watauga schools look to be on 2 hr delay tomorrow. Pay attention as that can change quickly, especially since cold front passing through near midnight.
Be careful out there, we are seeing moderate flooding and increased water levels in creeks and rivers. Remember, turn around - don't drown.
