Andoni Iraola should be at the very top of Liverpool’s shortlist if they’re serious about building the next great era. What he’s doing at Bournemouth is nothing short of remarkable. Tonight, he tactically outclassed Pep Guardiola and that isn’t something you can just brush off as a one-off result. Bournemouth are now 4 months unbeaten, playing with a clear identity, intensity, and belief that reflects elite coaching. But the real story is the context. Iraola isn’t doing this with a super squad or unlimited resources. He lost his entire starting back line and first-choice goalkeeper last summer the kind of disruption that derails most teams for a full season. Then in January, he lost Antoine Semenyo too, one of Bournemouth’s most dangerous attacking outlets. Most managers would use that as an excuse for regression. Instead? He adapted. He rebuilt, evolved the system, and somehow made Bournemouth even stronger. Now he has them on course for European football for the first time in the club’s 127-year history. That is elite management. This isn’t just about results either. Bournemouth under Iraola are aggressive, brave, tactically flexible, and incredibly well-drilled. His teams press with intelligence, transition quickly, attack with purpose, and compete against bigger clubs without fear. That profile screams Liverpool. High intensity. Front-foot football. Tactical courage. Player development. Overachievement. Liverpool don’t just need a good coach after the Klopp era they need a manager who can elevate players, maximise resources, and impose a modern identity. Andoni Iraola is proving he can do all of that at one of the toughest clubs in the league to sustain success. If he can take Bournemouth from relegation candidates to Europe while losing half his spine, imagine what he could do with Liverpool’s squad, infrastructure, and recruitment model.
