With the help of the very talented @julianna_han @WardLab1, we found out that this IGHV1-69/IGKV3-11 B cell pairing exclusively targets an apical S2 domain, which is normally obscured on the prefusion spike trimer but might be present in open and/or aberrant conformations. (8)

New, really cool CIVICs study with Ian Wilson and @WardLab1 showing that our cHA constructs support binding of HA stalk AND trimer interface antibodies! @niaidcivics pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.22… Below: Structure of cH15/3 with FluA-20 and stalk mAb bound!
Great collaboration with @WardLab1. Special thanks goes to #AndrewWard, @GabeOzorowski and #JohnTorres for their amazing structural work on J08, our antibody tested in phase II/III clinical trial for the treatment of COVID-19. Kudos guys and congratulations to us all!
The antibody J08 can recognize many COVID-19 variants. Now @WardLab1 @GabeOzorowski at @scrippsresearch reveals in @PNASNews how the antibody's structure makes it so potent and flexible, and what that means for future viral variants. scripps.edu/news-and-events/…
