Thanks to all concerned.
Some Year 7 and Year 8 students enjoyed finding out about the real-life story of local WWI hero Arthur Cornell, told by historian Dr Bill Smith from @WarWorkshops. They had fun getting hands-on with artefacts helping to bring their History studies to life.

Such a terrific school with a really positive atmosphere.
Dr Bill Smith returned today to the history department to deliver some WW1 Workshops to our Year 8 pupils. He is so knowledgeable and passionate about WW1 - especially the local aspect. Our pupils thoroughly enjoyed this activity. #WW1
Walter died whilst in training with 10th Duke of Wellington’s (West Riding) Regiment. He had enlisted along with his brother, Edwin.
Edwin was killed in action on the Somme in October 1916; he has no known grave.

After a relaxing morning at the Chateau the pupils are on their way to Tyne Cot to pay their respects to pupils' relatives. This evening pupils will visit the Menin Gate for the Last Post and remember local men from Clitheroe commemorated there. #battlefields2023
What a wonderful way for a school to commemorate.

In pride of place beside the memorial at @perthacademy is a memorial plaque and other personal effects of two former pupils of the school, James Amess and Ewan Martin. Such an amazing gesture by their families. #PARemembers
Such a pleasure to work with everyone ... and such a great attitude from students and staff alike!
Thanks to all concerned.
Year 6 have had a visitor today who has delivered a wonderful hands on experience of WW1. They looked at a variety of artefacts and learnt about the Cullen brothers - two local lads who were part of the Accrington Pals. #history #year6 #seefurther

Very much looking forward to a first visit to Peel Park Primary, Accrington @pp_accrington
We will be following the story of the Cullen brothers. The family lived a stone's throw from the school, on Manor Street, and all four sons volunteered in 1914-15.
John Thomas Hall had been awarded his Military Medal for his conduct in the actions near Le Sars in Oct 1916. Capt Henry Kelly had been awarded the VC and 14 other men had also been awarded the MM. For a full account see tunstillsmen.blogspot.com
