Early voting is open! Go vote now for pro-housing, pro-transit candidates! Plenty of candidates claim to want an affordable, walkable Austin, but our endorsement goes only to candidates who will actually fight to build the homes and transit needed to make it happen!

Less than 5% of fire department calls are for fires and yet, the FDs insist on an 18-ton truck and four person crew to attend a 78 y/o woman with chest pain. At this point, fire trucks are mostly branding. FDs have become a spectacularly expensive EMS service. Time for reform
Were You Aware: SF Fire Department has a budget of $550M (2025). That year, it counted 6,550 fires, mostly outside, with only 300 fires in buildings that year. That means we could just Abolish The Fire Department and when your building burns down, give you $2M!

This listing is likely (hopefully!) an error, but the bigger issue is real: Less than a quarter of Austinites can afford a housing type that occupies 80%+ of our city’s residential land. At what point do we say enough is enough and legalize more forms of housing?

Making it easier to build smaller, less expensive homes in walkable neighborhoods benefits us all. Yet some work endlessly to protect exclusionary zoning and resist change, to the detriment of Austin. Appreciate this group’s focus on doing the work!

the double standard is glaring. in east austin, we encourage dev for housing, transit, sustainability and tax base. west austin, we cap heights & limit dev to protect surrounding exclusionary zoning same city, different priorities

If preserving the golf course takes priority over other city needs, can we at least rethink remaining land? More revenue for UT, more tax base for Austin, more housing, more walkability. More city.

This land was donated to UT in 1910 with the vision of becoming its new main campus. A century later, UT explored replacing student-subsidized golf with a walkable, mixed-use neighborhood. Using valuable urban land to build an actual city is a good thing

I’ve spent years fighting for more housing everywhere and pushing back when people say Austin treats East and West differently. I’ve always argued that’s not true. But this makes it hard to defend that position. It hurts to think they may be right. We have to do better.

four stories of housing in heart of a major city now qualifies as “looming” threat. never change, @statesman ☠️

glad @zoforaustin chose more housing for families near transit over protecting million-dollar single-family homes from change. at some point, “just need more time” simply another way of saying “we want less housing” passed unanimously on consent…

missing from story: developer already cut 11 affordable homes, scaled back its zoning request and redesigned the project to address neighborhood concerns. Yet opponents kept demanding more. At some point, “we support affordable housing, but…” rings hollow

Zilker Park is half the magic of ACL from the incredible backdrop to the convenience of tens of thousands of ppl walking/biking to and from. COTA is the opposite.

90% of these folks would choose a direct rail connection downtown
If you’re flying into Austin tonight, you’re probably looking at a 1-hour or longer wait for an Uber.
