I found a bunch of metal teir lists on reddit and they made my unreasonably angry. Here is a less offensive one.
Reminding myself it's reddit.

The Literary Moral Panics of our age are so comically absurd.
Lamenting that men don't read enough books while insisting they need to read books that they don't like and aren't interested in. Then, objecting to the suggestion that contemporary publishing needs viewpoint diversity.
Endless complaints about book banning while the industry openly boycotts Jewish authors in support of illiberal Jihadists who would ban everything and everyone from existence.
The revelation that discerning literary prizes can easily be gamed by an algorithm incapable of any human feelings that simply produces a jumbled mess of words. Then, declaring the solution is an algorithm to tell you if there is an algorithm, instead of an investigation of the emptiness of contemporary literary forms.

We will have a movie where one man (or McGonnagal) takes out 75 badguys™ and it will be awesome.
Some people will mock it, but they have no mojo.

On a more personal note - this is the first time I've pitched my stuff, been asked to submit, submitted, and been accepted and then paid (!?) for my writing. This has prompted a revelation about 30 years in the making.
As a child, the standard I held my own dream to was "I wanna be a published author", and going indie seemed like the alternative path, like you had to give up on one to pursue the other. Given the state of modern publishing, I was always happy to give up entirely on any definition of "published" that involves the big 4.
But being published by someone else at all seems to have scratched that itch, and I think 5 year old me is fine with negotiating our new goal. That is, that I've got a baby, and not a lot of time, and writing short stories for other publications and collections has brought me so much joy, and I think really brought out some of my best writing.
I wanna write more short stories and submit them to cool publications. If you know of any, let me know.
I'll still be working on my novels, and I'll always be indie, but I think in the years to come you'll see me pop up in a lot more places with short form work.
Just wanted to say thanks to all my buddies in the writing community because there's really nobody like them, and finding them is what took me up a level (from totally unknown to having enough fans to pack out a micro-bar. There are literally tens of them.)
Here's to the climb.
As per my vague publishing tweet:
I'll be featuring in Southwatch Stories: A Darkside Chronicles Anthology, with my short story 'Estrangement', which is essentially a steampunk episode of Hannibal featuring a sculpter and a thief.
All these stories are set in a shared steampunk universe which has some extremely hard lore, think Victorian Eco-Orphan 40k. Bad-Trip-Jules-Verne with Fae and terminators. You get me.
Expect to hear about it a lot going into next year.
Weird Frequencies: Out of the Void came today!
If I weren't focusing on two other tomes this would be my weekend... still might check out a story or two right away.
