Three days before Christmas in 2021, Tracey Nix, a former school principal in Florida, fell asleep while babysitting her 16-month-old grandson, Ezra. When she woke up, he was gone. After lunch with friends, Tracey drove home with the baby asleep in the back seat, parked and went inside. She forgot Uriel was there. It was 90 degrees outside, and the windows were rolled up. Uriel stayed in the car for hours. By the time paramedics arrived, she was already dead. In January 2025, a jury cleared Tracey of manslaughter but convicted her of leaving a child in a car. She was later sentenced to five years in prison. The day Uriel died, a deputy knocked on Kaila's door and told her that her baby was dead. Confused, she replied "I know Ezra's dead."
