Today is #WorldEnvironmentDay so we're being very sustainable by taking back all the books that people have read, putting them onto shelves for people to look through, then giving them out again to other people who haven't read them yet. It's a great system. ♻️ #Libraries

St Cuthbert Gospel is the earliest surviving intact Western book: it is in its original binding, and it has never been restored or resewn. A major acquisition for @britishlibrary in 2011 which @FNL313 was delighted to be able to support with a major grant.
Today, March 20th, is the Feast Day of St Cuthbert, the patron saint of Northumbria.
Here is Raine's account of the discovery of St Cuthbert's Gospel in 1104, when the coffin of St Cuthbert (d. 687), bishop of Lindisfarne, was opened at Durham Cathedral.
This Gospel Book is regarded today as the earliest known European book with an original, intact binding.

For Women’s History Month today, we remember the Bronte sisters, a trio of gifted writers.
Their most famous novels were Jane Eyre by Charlotte, Wuthering Heights by Emily, and Agnes Grey by Anne. Their memorial sits in Poets' Corner.
