By chance, steampunker Torkel Larsen - originally from Norway but with grandparents from Blackpool and “piers in the blood”- bought a house in Withernsea that originally belonged to a historian (and hoarder). Clearing it out, he found the original architects’ drawings of the pier

Now all you can see of the old pier are the gateway towers, said to have been modelled on Conwy Castle in North Wales, guarding the town even as it faces coastal erosion, chronic deprivation and rising costs of living
