37 degree temperature range from northern Wisconsin (Bayfield) to southern Wisconsin (Yorkville)!
These 80-degree temps feel a lot more like August than October! 🥵 Some cities broke daily high-temperature records over the weekend, but no monthly records have fallen yet.
The state's hottest October temperature was 96ºF on October 3, 1938, in Mondovi! #wiwx
Northern WI is now experiencing the largest exceptional drought in state record.
This year is very unique, as people in southern WI might think "What drought?" Drought has been confined to the northern, as opposed to 2023 when dryness was widespread. #wiwx
October 8 marks the anniversary of the Peshtigo Fire, which killed over 2,000 people across Wisconsin and Michigan.

We're already waving goodbye to September! ☀️
After a burst of warmth early in the month, temperatures turned cooler than average. Central and southern Wisconsin were doused with rain, but unfortunately the driest areas in the north missed out. #wiwx

Fall arrives today at 8:05 pm ET! 🍂
Today’s Fall Equinox marks the start of astronomical fall in the Northern Hemisphere and is the moment when the Sun is directly over Earth’s equator. From now through the Winter Solstice on December 21, the Northern Hemisphere will receive increasingly less direct sunlight as Earth continues along its tilted orbit around the Sun.

For some parts of northwest Wisconsin, last night brought the first half-inch of rain in over 8 weeks! It's not much to dent the drought, but every bit is beneficial. #wiwx
Next week's forecast is looking a lot like fall! ☕
Here's when many locations in Wisconsin typically see their first cool fall day and first very chilly morning.
Last year, central Wisconsin got an early taste of fall while the southern region had an extended summer! #wiwx

El Niño is strengthening, with a greater than 90% chance of a very strong event during the Northern Hemisphere fall and winter 2026-27. An #ElNino Advisory remains in effect. #ENSO cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/a…

ALT A bar chart showing the chance of El Niño (red bars), ENSO-Neutral (grey bars), and La Niña (blue bars) provided for 9 upcoming, overlapping 3-month seasons (each letter represents a month, for example, F = February). The color shading within the bars indicates the chances of different categories of El Niño or La Niña strength (weak, moderate, strong, and very strong). The new Drought Monitor is out. There isn't a significant change from last week, but a little bit more of southern Wisconsin has been added to the Abnormally Dry category.
Most of the state received less than an inch of rain in the past week and soils continue to dry out.
August was a quieter weather month for Wisconsin, though the lack of rain allowed drought to steadily expand in the north. #wiwx
