Our work out today in @AnnalsofIM shows the importance of systematic follow up for patients with so-called “secondary” or “peri-operative” #AtrialFibrillation. 1 in 3 will have AF recurrence when assessed with 14 day Holter @McMasterU @PHRIresearch
Patients with new-onset atrial fibrillation during hospitalization face a surprising 1 in 3 risk of AF recurrence within 1 year, according to a new study. Findings highlight importance of vigilant monitoring and care. ow.ly/VGFG50PSwmZ #AtrialFibrillation #HeartHealth

For a patient with new-onset trigger-associated #AF, how long do you need to monitor them in follow-up to find recurrent AF?

Very proud to have been part of this project. A very practical application of AI that should ultimately make diagnostics ambulatory ECG more accessible to patients.

I can’t wait to see what you are going to do next!
I am humbled to have been recognized by a body that has honoured so many distinguished leaders, innovators, and clinicians. I couldn't be more grateful for the @CdnMedHallFame, my mentors @WFMMD and @MLevitan101, my family, and @McmasterUgme @machealthsci for believing in me!
From @Artesia_RCT at #HRS2024 and in @JACCJournals:
Device-detected subclinical + CHA2DS2-VASc score >4: stroke risk 2.2%/yr. Clear benefit to OAC with apixaban
No benefit with CHA2DS2-VASc score <4.
Grey zone at CHA2DS2-VASc =4. @PHRIresearch @DCRINews

Important new data from @Artesia_RCT presented by stroke neurologist @Ash_Shoamanesh at #ESOC2024. Pts with prior stroke and device-detected subclinical #AF have high stroke risk and get a large stroke-reduction benefit from apixaban @PHRIresearch
I am grateful to the @ACCinTouch and the @SCC_CCS for the opportunity to attend the ACC Wael El Mahmeed Global Leadership Institute this week in Washington DC. I learned a lot and met a lot of great people from around the world.
Look who I got to meet while waiting for the train to #EHRA2024. Great to chat with you in person, @bogdienache

The results of B-Free are out! What's the bottom line? In ITT restricting intraoperative benzodiazepines did not (by a hair) reduce the incidence of postoperative delirium (aOR 0.92; 95% CI 0.84-1.01; P=0.07). HOWEVER...
Today I really enjoyed meeting, philosophizing and chatting with the @drjohnm. We’ve done it a few times before digitally but never in person. Thanks to @EHRAPresident #EHRA2024 for providing a great forum for the exchange of ideas.

1 in 3 pts with new-onset post-operative #AF after Cardiac Surgery will have AF recurrence within 1 yr of surgery, if monitored with an implantable loop recorder. What this means for the long-term management of these patients is unclear. New in @IJCardio
