It's that time again - when First Bus brings out its new timetables. Are they better, worse or the same as the last ones?

I don't want self driving cars.
I want boring things like public transit that comes so regularly I don't need to check a schedule. I want bike lanes so accessible it's preferable to Uber. I want a city that's not built around cars-as-default.

No one is going to say 'no' to £42 million and we don't want to sound ungrateful but it's going to take a lot more than this to make the changes needed for decent public transport across our region. #WestOfEngland #busfranchising

Here's our response to the government announcement that housing developments near railway stations will be given a ‘default yes’...

ALT Aerial view of a suburban development site with a quote from Ben Plowden: “Updates to the National Planning Policy Framework which encourage more developments around existing and planned public transport networks are welcome, but we need to ensure that locations are not just selected on the vague and undefined basis of being “well-connected”. Developments need to be built next to good-quality, high-capacity, integrated public transport and walking, cycling and wheeling networks which are available to new residents from day one to be truly sustainable and avoid creating yet more car-dependent communities.”

Oil, chemicals and bits of tyre from roads is polluting English waterways.
And not enough is being done about it!
This @BBCNews article from last year is sadly still relevant today.

As people switch to EVs, fuel duty revenue will plummet.
Govt should set out a process for introducing a per-mile charge for EVs. This would be fair, and avoid a budget black hole.
The charge should be low, so it's still cheaper to drive a cleaner car.

There seem to be two factors at play in the demise of WESTLink: 1 Some people are using it like a taxi service (who could actually afford to pay for a taxi.) 2 The gaps that WESTLink is attempting to plug are too big and need scheduled bus services.
