Well. Cock sucking I'd phrase it. BREAKING: A UK court has decided which country's rulebook applies to one of the largest Bitcoin seizures on record. The answer is China's, not England's. The UK High Court ruled that claims to more than 61,000 BTC, valued at approximately $5 billion, are governed by Chinese law. That makes the path to recovery steeper for thousands of fraud victims hoping to share in the haul. Mr Justice Mark Turner handed down the ruling on or around October 12, 2026. The case sits within civil recovery proceedings brought under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. Those proceedings target assets linked to Zhimin Qian, a convicted fraudster also known as Yadi Zhang or Qian Zhimin. The question before the court was simple to ask and hard to answer: whose law decides who owns the coins? The court picked Chinese law. That choice changes what victims have to prove. Claimants now need to show a proprietary interest in the Bitcoin under Chinese legal standards. A creditor claim on its own will not be enough. The difference matters more than it sounds. A creditor says, "You owe me money." A proprietary claimant says, "That specific property is mine." The second argument is far stronger, and far harder to win. Roughly 16,000 victims are reported to have joined the UK proceedings. Each of them now faces a hurdle defined by Chinese property law, applied by an English court. The coins trace back to a Ponzi-style scheme that ran from 2014 to 2017. It operated through a company based in Tianjin, China. Victims, mostly Chinese investors, signed at least 128,409 investment contracts. Their combined losses came to around RMB 40.2 billion, or roughly £4.1 billion. The money was converted into Bitcoin through Huobi and through over-the-counter trades in China. Qian moved to the UK in 2017, the same year the scheme ended. In November 2025, Qian was sentenced to 11 years and 8 months for money laundering. Victims lost money years ago. The Bitcoin bought with that money has since grown into a stash valued at approximately $5 billion. The ruling strengthens UK authorities' position in retaining the Bitcoin's appreciated value. By raising the bar for victim claims, it leaves more of the pot potentially on the government's side of the table. The decision does not end the matter. Future hearings are set to dig into how Chinese property rights work in this context. Victims may also pursue appeals. For the roughly 16,000 victims involved, the immediate impact is practical. Claims built around English legal concepts may need to be rebuilt around Chinese ones, and arguments about ownership will need evidence that fits a different framework. For governments, the case is a template worth watching. Large crypto seizures create a problem that cash seizures rarely do: the asset can appreciate dramatically between the crime and the courtroom. The precedent could also complicate future claims involving seized Bitcoin and other digital assets in similar circumstances. Courts elsewhere facing comparable fact patterns now have a high-profile example of a judge looking to the country where the fraud occurred. What to watch next: the upcoming hearings on Chinese property rights, any appeals from victims, and how the UK ultimately handles the appreciated value of the coins.

Why is $BTC so correlated with $SPY? I thought the whole point is to decouple from tradfi.
