Vouchers are the education equivalent of predatory lending. 70% of voucher users were in chosen private schools already. The few who do transfer are funneled into sub-prime private schools with horrific outcomes—on part with COVID19 or Katrina learning loss.

I stand with the nearly 200 IFF workers in #Memphis who are now on strike for appropriate overtime pay, and health care & other benefits they can count on. These aren't outlandish requests—they’re the bare minimum that workers should be able to expect. #IFFstrike #UnionStrong

WATCH — MEMPHIS: “Our 1st amendment rights have been violated.” With @Justinjpearson looking on, public school advocates were blocked by @MSCSK12’s board from another superintendent search meeting, with armed cops— after an unjustified ban. A lawsuit is coming. @MemphisForAll

“'While we were celebratory in that moment [when @JustinJPearson & @BrotherJones_ were reinstated], we had to regroup,' said Tikeila Rucker, a political organizer with @MemphisForAll. 'We couldn’t get lost in the mood. We’re still fighting on all sides.'" capitalbnews.org/justin-pear… – at Memphis, TN

…so this happened yesterday. @MSCSK12 educators showed up demanding a $50K equity pay!! Although they put us in the overflow room, it didn’t stop our voices from being heard. #educatorsareapriority #StrongerTogether #UEA @TEA_teachers @NEAToday

There’s a soul sickness in our state when Tennessee Republican legislators are more concerned with protecting gun manufacturers from lawsuits, than children from being killed by mass shootings. We said, protect children not guns— they choose the guns. This is morally insane.

The voice of the people in Tennessee’s Distrcit 86, the voice that was unjustly removed, has been reinstated. What they believed to be a crucifixion, initiated a resurrection of a movement to create a democracy that works for the people!

What happened in Tennessee is the latest example of a broader erosion of civility and democratic norms. Silencing those who disagree with us is a sign of weakness, not strength, and it won’t lead to progress.

Students, while walking out, are really standing up for us all & saying we deserve to have communities who are free from gun violence. They are standing up to ensure our state legislators do something about sensible gun reform, which can make our schools and communities safer!
A scene to show how many White Station High School students skipped lunch and showed up to the walkout today.
