Replying to @VoteRiders
@VoteRiders: Every registered voter across the country also needs to do an ID check so they know what ID (if any) they need to show at the polls or what ID (if any) they need to vote by mail — or get an accepted form of ID if they don’t have one already.

You know what would actually make people trust #elections more?
Clear rules. Stable rules. Rules people understand.
Not changing how people #vote right before a major election and then acting surprised when everybody has questions.
VoteRiders retweeted
Don’t just tell people to vote.
Ask them what they want to change.
Talk about the rent. Groceries. Healthcare. Their kids. Their neighborhood.
Then connect those concerns to who has the power to make decisions and what we can do together.
Turnout starts with a conversation, not a reminder.

Another reminder that “the right to vote” and “access to voting” are not exactly the same thing.
You can technically have the right to vote while policymakers make the process harder to navigate, harder to access, or easier to disrupt.

Recently, DRC joined a broad coalition of voting rights, disability rights, community and labor organizations, vowing to defeat an anti-voter proposition that is headed for the November ballot. This measure would make it harder for millions of eligible Californians to vote, expose voters to potential identity theft, and cost taxpayers tens of millions of dollars. We know that barriers to voting already disproportionately impact disabled people.

This initiative is part of a dangerous national trend of anti-voter laws, meant to incite fear and distrust in our elections. We, as a coalition, promise to defeat this measure by exposing the false claims behind the initiative and the very real harms it would inflict on voters across California.

Today we say goodbye to civil rights giant Reverend Jesse Jackson.
From leading student protests and marching for voting rights in Selma to organizing with Dr. King and leading two historic presidential campaigns, he had an undeniable impact on our country.
Rest in power. 🙏🏾🕊️
