Voice actors, based on some of the casting calls I have been seeing lately, I would like to share a quick list of green and red flags to help people out.
Red Flags:
🔴A casting director requiring you to join a Discord server just to be considered for a role.
🔴 Vague language around being paid.
🔴Vague language on whether or not you were shortlisted.
Green flags:
🟢 A proper email or submission address that feels professional.
🟢 A Google Doc or brief that clearly explains the project and how to submit.
🟢 Clear audition lines with character backstory, direction, and stated payment or usage.
🟢 A clear audition deadline, plus transparency about whether unsuccessful applicants will hear back.
Stay strong out there, fellow voice actors 💖

Masahiro Sakurai says Japanese developers should focus on making games that Japanese people like instead of trying to appeal to a Western audience!
“A while ago, there was certainly a culture of making Americanized products, because various works were popular in the US. However, I feel that ‘Japanese game lovers’ overseas are not looking for such things, but for something unique and interesting from Japan.
In other words, I think that the ideal would be to make games the way you like, as those who agree with you will enjoy them.”

Amazing to see my bad ass, hard-working, voice actor friends #HoldingTheLine 2day outside Disney Character Voices 4 the ongoing @sagaftra Video Game Strike.
We need to get back to work & all we’re asking for is fair AI protections: consent, compensation and transparency!

Emeri and so many others are fighting for our protection against AI and being replaced because corporations refuse to sign the agreement. I'm proud of Emeri, I know how hard they worked on ZZZ. Stay strong! We will win this fight against AI. 💙

If you’re just learnin about the video game strike, I wanna clarify a key detail I’ve seen get distorted a lot: Generally, the *developer* decides whether to sign an interim agreement, not the recording studio. Often, the studio is only a middleman. They do not set this term.

Why we strike: "One particular sticking point is a carveout that would let companies create digital replicas using any existing in-game performances from prior to the next contract, as well as any publicly available data like voice actors doing interviews on YouTube."

There are many contracts out there with AI protections, but only SAG Interim Contracts provide actors with a legal team to enforce the contract at no cost. Legal fees are expensive, and many actors would have to go into debt to enforce our own contracts if they were violated.
