Does anyone else feel that they basically lucked into a high paying career because their interests randomly aligned with scarcity and a rapidly growing field, and that it's nowhere near as hard, or as societally valuable as what teachers, medical professionals and care-givers do?

(1/7) So apparently some (I hope very few) people online are using the fact that I am the primary developer of the eht-imaging software library (github.com/achael/eht-imagin…) to launch awful and sexist attacks on my colleague and friend Katie Bouman. Stop.

I'm seeing more and more freelancers around me with longer periods between jobs. It's quite a contrast with a couple years ago when they were all had new jobs before they even announced they'd be available. Early sign of a new financial depression?

PHP folks - what's the thinking these days about adding some sort of metadata support to the language? I see there've been multiple RFCs over the years, with wiki.php.net/rfc/attributes voted on and rejected in 2016...
1
.@SaraMG @crell Thoughts? The RFC that was voted down looked very un-PHP, I was just thinking using declare(). So, taking Drupal annotations as an example, this: * @MigrateProcessPlugin( * id = "concat", * handle_multiples = TRUE ...
1
...would become this: declare(metadata=[ 'MigrateProcessPlugin' => [ 'id' = 'concat', 'handle_multiples' = TRUE, ], ]);

Has #DrupalCon @splashawards always been an additional $50 (on top of the ~$1000 drupalcon admission which only gets you into one track)? It costs at least $2000-3000 to even show up at DrupalCon. How is this event inclusive if you basically _have_ to be sponsored to attend?
