Very excited to share our #multiomics work on the mitochondrial fuel–metabolism signature of #HFpEF myocardium at #AHA25 in NOLA! 🔬🫀@VirginiaSHahnMD
Huge thanks to our chiefs @uclaimchiefs for making this happen @uclaCVfellows @UCLA @hopkinsheart
Fantastic session at #AHA25 on overlaps and opportunities in treating #HFpEF and #CKM @mvaduganathan @hvanspall @KSharmaMD @lamcardio @JavedButler1 @HFpEF
@mvaduganathan highlighted data on the additive effect of nsMRA+SGLT2i, supporting GDMT for #HFpEF
@vinayaksub shared a case illustrating that for pts with #HFpEF, evidence-based💊can dramatically improve quality of life

Cardiomyopathies are shaped by more than genetics. Epigenetics & environmental factors play a key role in clinical variability & progression. This review dives into DNA methylation, histone mods, and ncRNAs as therapeutic targets (link.springer.com/article/10…). #HREV @VirginiaSHahnMD

Sex Differences in #Skeletal Muscle Pathology in Patients With Heart Failure and Reduced Ejection Fraction
Muscle biopsies in #HFrEF patients (22 men, 16 women) and controls (18 men, 16 women):
📍5629 differentially expressed genes: men showed increased catabolism, reduced mitochondrial function.
📍Men had higher proatrophic gene expression (ubiquitin proteasome, autophagy), while women had increased IGF1 (proanabolic).
📍Women had more type I muscle fibers, higher capillarity, and pro-oxidative features.
📍Sex differences in HIF1α, ESR1, VEGF, IL-6, and IL-8 expression.

Are you an MD student interested in research?
Would strongly consider applying for the @SarnoffCardio Fellowship. Scientific immersion with *unparalleled* longitudinal mentorship & exceptional peer network career-long. sarnofffellowship.com/
My biggest regret in med school was not participating despite guidance from mentors. Now I'm thrilled to join this vibrant community on the Scientific Committee.
Nice summary of the program ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/… @CircAHA
Track record of successful physician-scientists going through this program is impressive - the recipe of immersion + longitudinal engagement/sponsorship/mentorship works very well
