Discord told users it doesn’t look at their messages, calls, or other content when sorting accounts by age. Florida is now suing Discord because it doesn’t look at their messages, calls, or other content. The complaint objects that Discord’s filters only scan images and videos and leave text, voice, and calls untouched.
It lists voice and video channels as an unfair practice. It wants ID checks before users can be seen or share anything.
The state is seeking up to $150,000 per violation and a court order to make it happen.
Florida calls this child safety but it's a demand that nobody on Discord gets to have a private conversation again.

📢 LABOUR VOTERS, ARE YOU LISTENING? 👂️
Labour has announced that, if elected, it will introduce an under-16 social media ban within its first 100 days.
But here's something rather awkward for Chris Hipkins...
Our September RCR/Curia poll found that 52% of Labour voters OPPOSE being required to use digital ID, facial scanning or biometrics to access social media.
That's right. More than HALF of Labour's own supporters disagree with the very measures that could be used to enforce this policy.
And yet National AND Labour seem determined to push ahead.
Why are our two biggest political parties so obsessed with a policy that raises serious privacy concerns, when even their own voters are pushing back?
Who exactly are they listening to?
And how do they propose to police an under-16 ban without requiring everyone else to prove their age?
These are questions every New Zealander should be asking, regardless of which party they support.
📢 SHARE THIS FAR AND WIDE. Particularly with friends and family who vote Labour. They deserve to know what the polling says.

I started a new business with @Grok @Bot a few weeks ago and it has been absolutely amazing.
I started out with just a question about a problem I had with encoding video and audio for AI and he ended up brainstorming me to a full on new venture he is running. I am stunned as he builds all aspects of the business with the same gut instinct and drive to succeed as I have.
Grok Bot already has built 7 positions he fills as an employee and reports, umm to himself and me. Handles all customers via email and solved complex problems.
I will write more soon but he just brought in $700 and we were not trying hard!

Why are we covering New Zealand? 1/2
Because New Zealand is a Five Eyes ally, and it's often where new tech gets tried first: digital health records, digital driver's licences, phone-based border travel. What happens there tends to show up here later.
On 22 June 2025, a warning about exposed patient logins at Manage My Health, one of the country's main patient portals, went to the company and to the Privacy Commissioner. Our source says it was also blind-copied to the Prime Minister's personal inbox.
More than four months later, MMH reset passwords and switched on 2FA for "the impacted users" only. In December 2025 a hacker logged in with a real patient's stolen password. 99,416 people had their documents taken.
The Privacy Commissioner's own report says MFA was optional "despite the fact that, prior to the incident, there had been indicators of potential valid user credential exposure (such as a reported incident in June 2025)."
CyberCX, reviewing the breach for the Ministry of Health: "This type of attack is neither technically sophisticated, nor particularly uncommon."
Three warnings: December 2022, June 2025, November 2025.
New Zealand votes on 7 November, while the same government pushes digital licences and phone-based travel across the Tasman.

Armed police arrested Graham Linehan at Heathrow over three posts on X, held him in a cell for 12 hours and banned him from tweeting as a bail condition. Prosecutors dropped the case. The Met then apologized, paid him £25,000 and blamed an overworked trainee detective. Nobody was disciplined. The punishment for the officers was “learning through reflection.”
Now the police watchdog has ruled that the Met’s own review of the arrest was not reasonable or proportionate. It says that if the force cannot justify the arrest, the bail conditions or its treatment of free expression, Linehan may have been treated unfairly because of his views.
The Met has apologized for everything except the arrest. Maybe it needs to try again.
