I'm seeing a lot of people speculating about the Spindlehorse staff changes and i wonder if the issue is they finished the whole season in one go instead of finishing one episode and moving on to the next as they used to.
Scandal erupts in Denmark over TV show that brutally pranked comedian for four months
Danish comedian Rasmus Wallbridge believed he was working with his friend Martin Larsen on a film adaptation of their long-standing idea — a comedy in the style of Scary Movie.
In reality, the film project was an elaborate setup by broadcaster TV 2: 149 people, including Larsen, played out a staged scenario in front of Rasmus while hidden cameras captured everything.
The footage was turned into a six-part series called Everybody Loves Rasmus.
The comedian only discovered the truth at the end of filming. He initially took the prank calmly and agreed to the show being broadcast.
However, after the first episode aired on October 26, the programme triggered a wave of criticism. Viewers, comedians and TV presenters described what happened as bullying and psychological abuse. One presenter called it “psychological torture”.
On October 31, Wallbridge said he was not ready to take part in the discussion and asked the broadcaster not to use such methods again. That same day, TV 2 removed the show from all platforms and apologised to the comedian.
Denmark’s Culture Minister also weighed in on the scandal, describing the programme as a “tasteless psychological experiment” and accusing the broadcaster of violating its own ethical standards.

This genuinely makes survival as a full time freelance artist in Canada MUCH MUCH easier. Wow.

feel like I'm seeing lots of authors sorta doom posting about how impossible it is to get interactions on ao3 compared to, like, artists on twitter or sm fandoms, and it feels important to me that yall know that you can post writing and promo to social media too! it does work :D

Rarely in my time as both a fandom creator (art and writing) and a fellow fan have I seen anything more disrespectful than the expression "fandom freeloader". That's all I'm going to say about it.

i don’t use this term lightly when i say that this is a generational video
you can also!!!! SELL WRITING COMMISSIONS! WOW!!!
YOU CAN ALSO!!! POST SNIPPETS OF YOUR FIC ON THIS PLATFORM TO ENTICE PEOPLE TO READ THE FULL THING! WOW!!
its almost like the algorithm is a thing artists ALSO have to LEARN or else their work goes UNSEEN!!!!!!
'oh no artists can make a living selling commissions!!!!' yes so can you. you can even print out a finite number of books and sell them at a convention. and know you will be rolling the same dice we do.
neither of us can use the IP name to advertise our work
also i'm going to be so real - i barely read fanfic these days but i am going to be logging right the fuck onto ao3 and blocking anyone who has a braindead take about fanartists having it easier.

She’s 100% right and I didn’t even realize how much that 2008-forged version of me had died in November 2016 until she came back to life last night. Ten fucking years. And we are so back.
AOC: A note for Gen Z. If you want to understand millennial cringe, what you all call millennial cringe, this earnestness, imagine all the seats we flipped last night. That feeling, plus, on top of it, electing the first Black president ever. And on top of that, you did it the first time you ever voted. That hits generationally. You’ve been chasing that feeling ever since.
And because you did it the first time you ever voted, you’re like, ‘Yeah, we can change the world. Why not? We did it the first time. Let’s just do it again.’
what i really hate about this discourse is that it's showcasing some people truly believe that they are another class of fan if they write fanfiction and fandom would be bereft without them.
fandom can and does persist without fanfic and fanartists.
and frankly i don't think its possible to address the fundamental disconnect in fandom these days without addressing the elephant that is how fucked things got when we shifted from communal spaces to individual accounts with visible followers.
