Acting on my instructions, on Tuesday the relevant official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed the Russian ambassador to Hungary that, according to the assessment of the Hungarian authorities, 10 members of the Russian mission had engaged in activities in Hungary that are unacceptable for diplomats under the Vienna Convention. The Hungarian side has therefore called on the individuals in question to leave Hungary. This decision protects Hungary’s security and sovereignty. It does not imply breaking off diplomatic relations with Russia. Hungary intends to continue the necessary dialogue, based on mutual respect and adherence to the rules.

Day 2 of the constitutional crisis in Hungary is here. 👉It is objectively a crisis it's not a narrative: the parliament passed legislation that effectively ends the term of the sitting president prematurely as a one-off. 👉The legislation only comes to force if the target of the legislation, the president signs it. This is a paradox, that is the source of the crisis. 👉It is unlikely Tamás Sulyok would do that without sending the whole of the 17th amendment to the Constitutional Court for a review. 👉The CC is packed with Orbán loyalists, who then would bury the bill for a considerable time. 👉Péter Magyar said Sulyok has 5 days to sign his departure. If this does not happen in timeframe, parliamentary majority will impeach him. 👉Orbán, others signalled Sulyok may not leave upon such an impeachment, and that they think the authority of a new president would be "null and void".

Parliament has just passed it. From now on, in Hungary, a Prime Minister may serve a maximum of two terms, or eight years.

Russia’s brutal overnight attack on Kyiv is another horrifying reminder of the human cost of this war. Civilians should never wake up to missiles, drones, explosions, and fear for their lives.
