The Savannah Bananas are the best story in sports.
Owner Jesse Cole and his wife Emily went $1.8 million in debt to start the team, but they now have a broadcast deal with ESPN and will sell two million tickets this year.
That includes sold-out games in 18 MLB ballparks and four football stadiums: Tampa Bay, Clemson, Nashville, and Charlotte.
The Bananas accomplished this by only doing what's best for its fans.
Ticket prices start at $25, including food and drinks. The Bananas eliminated all in-stadium advertising. They built a secondary market ticket platform to keep resale costs down, and the team implemented a "pay your taxes" policy, meaning that a $30 t-shirt truly costs $30.
Despite receiving investment offers every day, Jesse and his wife still own 100% of the business โย and now they are launching something even bigger.

$5,000 to incentivize women (and their husbands) to have children is embarrassing. $50,000 for year one and then $12k/year to cover a portion of care would be a good starting point. The answer is almost always โmy wife ended up leaving the workforce because care is more than her payโ needs to be a non-option for those that want to stay in the workforce. Daycare (and Im speaking for Nashville) is $500/week and for a non-fancy center where your baby is 4 newborns to 1 caretaker. Make a dent contributing to that and you will solve more than one problem.

Feels accurate for early 2025
Have had 100s of conversations with venture LPs over last year, prevailing sentiment is 2025 will be one of the best vintages in years. The liquidity crunch has significantly raised the bar for GPs raising capital. LPs are back to applying sound fundamentals when evaluating managers. FOMO is gone. We will only see the best managers rise to the top.
