I applied for 14(!) grants last year. I got 3, which statistically means I'm doing above average. Hundreds of pages of writing, countless hours (mine, support staff, reviewers), and I have barely enough to support my group. I don't think I'm unusual. This system is broken.

Qantas profits were $1.6B and CEO Alan Joyce was paid $11million this year, yet they want their staff to "volunteer" to "lend a hand" this Christmas. Qantas staff have been treated with record disrespect this year.
Qantas asks staff to volunteer their time to help out over Dec/Jan. "It’s not like Qantas is setting up a food kitchen at the terminal & helping to feed the hungry,' says @ASUnion. 'It’s lining its own pockets & asking staff to help them do that for free.' theaustralian.com.au/busines…
