Unpopular Opinion😀 Someone asked me why the stuff I design is much better than what I do for clients. I have a difficult time explaining that it's because of the client's persistent requests 🤦 After doing this for 15 years +, as a designer you have a set of rules hammered into your brain; what works and what doesn't 😧 Sometimes when clients don't want to hear it; they insist they are paying, make it happen. Some Frankensteining moment later, it's done, I take my paycheck and I leave. Often with a voice in my head or from a fellow designer questioning myself ☹️ I wish I still had the passion I did in my early 20s, but time passes. Clients normally aren't hiring designers to think, they just need a pair of hands. Reality hits: Designers need to pay rent, they need to eat. What happens? I'M going to be honest 🤑 I take money to make dogshit. When a client is extremely clear, has thought things through, they don't drag you into babysitting them through brainstorming sessions, its extremely satisfying to work with and I feel guilty taking money. Because there is a level of trust and it's 2 or more people bringing good design and beauty into the world 😘 I'm 2 months behind rent, I'm down bad. My coworker is literally feeding me by working himself to the bone, you notice he barely posts anymore. I don't own an ipad to be held hostage, 🤣 I've never owed anyone design or artwork. I don't have a desperate moment I'm going to do "shocking discounts" to spam timelines. I can't bring myself to beg strangers from the internet for money. I mean if it comes to that, it means you've borrowed so much money irl friends that they are raw or know you can't pay shit back 🤔 But I draw and design pretty ok decently.
