Spotlighting overlooked human experiences during the American occupation of the Philippines, the Loyola Film Circle hosted “Sisa: A Shape of Resistance” at the Henry Lee Irwin Theatre on October 13, as part of this year’s Talakang Alay sa Bayan.
The event featured a screening of Jun Robles Lana’s “Sisa” (2026), as well as a talkback with History Department Lecturer Marie Beatriz Gulinao and one of the film’s producers, Perci Intalan.
Intalan discussed how the work of filmmakers contributes to deepening the public’s understanding of the nation’s history, acknowledging the value of “Sisa” as a period film propelled by women’s agency and radical solidarity in a time of oppression.
Although films like this provide a more emotional and human experience of the past, Intalan explained that the call for the public is to ultimately return to the “big picture” and look back on history grounded on facts.
