Rebekah’s eyebrows shot up. “Basically, all of that?” She laughed softly, incredulously. “Of course. By now I should have known that the answer is never simple when it comes to your family.” Her expression, however, grew more serious. “So Cole isn’t just adapting. He’s actually evolving,but his own body is deliberately limiting that process so that the evolution doesn’t end up destroying him.” Rebekah let the information sink in for a moment. “That’s both impressive and scary.”

Rebekah was silent for a moment, visibly trying to process this latest revelation about his increasingly absurd family. “Adapolution.” She repeated the word slowly and raised an eyebrow. “Adaptation fused with evolution. Of course. Why would anyone in your family be something as simple as an ordinary vampire or werewolf?” An amused smile flitted across her lips. “And you call Cole the best of you all, even though he, too, is something completely new.” Rebekah grew visibly more curious. “At least that explains why you talk about him differently than you do about your older brothers.” She crossed her arms. “But what does that actually mean, Crimsonfang? When Cole adapts to something, does he continue to evolve? Does he get stronger when he’s confronted with new powers or dangers?”

Rebekah blinked at him for a moment. “Four of you are older than creation itself… and yet you have brothers who are still teenagers?” She slowly raised both eyebrows. “And I thought an age difference of a few centuries between siblings was complicated enough.” A soft laugh escaped her. “I take it all back, Crimsonfang. Your family is actually even stranger than mine. That’s quite an impressive feat.”

Rebekah immediately raised an eyebrow with interest at the name. “Ebion.” A small smile appeared on her lips. “So, Kallen’s father. Hope has already mentioned his name, but apparently she’s withheld some interesting details about this family from me.” She crossed her arms and looked at Crimsonfang curiously. “And has Hybridia met her too?” Rebekah shook her head slightly. “Darling, I’m starting to get the feeling that Hope knows more members of your family than I do.”

At those words, Rebecca’s expression softened instantly. A proud smile flitted across her lips ,,Yes, Hope was well raised.” “Hope learned what loss means far too early…more than any child should ever have to experience. And yet she’s kept her damn big heart.” At the thought that Hope had saved Kallen, her smile grew even warmer. “That really sounds just like my niece. When someone means something to her, she fights for that person…even when everyone else tells her it’s hopeless.”

Rebekah listened intently, and with every new detail about Kallen, her expression grew more interested. “A Dragonborn, a vampire, and a werewolf…” She let the words sink in for a moment. “Well, suddenly I understand why Hope is so fascinated by him.” Fang’s proud smile made Rebekah smile herself. “By the way, you sound just as bad as Nik does when he talks about Hope. “So that unbearably proud look isn’t exclusively a Mikaelson trait, then.” Then her expression softened. “But you’re right. Hope has had to live her whole life as something that shouldn’t really exist. She carries three different natures within her and had to learn far too early how to deal with everything that comes with it.” Rebekah briefly lowered her gaze before looking back at Fang. “If Kallen truly understands what it feels like to be multiple things at once, without any of them feeling any less like a part of him… then maybe he can actually give Hope something that the rest of us could never fully give her.”

“Hope told me about him, and I’m happy for her. I’m actually very happy. She seems truly happy with him. And believe me, after everything Hope has been through and lost, that means more to me than you can probably imagine.” Then, however, she noticed very clearly how Crimsonfang spoke about Hope. Rebekah raised an eyebrow, amused. “And I recognize that smile.” She pointed at him. “You’ve long since accepted my niece as part of your family, haven’t you?” A soft laugh escaped her. “An ancient wolf god considers Hope Mikaelson one of his pups. Nik will either find this information surprisingly touching or completely lose his mind.” Rebekah thought for a moment. “Probably both.” When Ebion was mentioned, her curiosity was piqued once more. “But now you’ve really caught my attention. So Kallen is Ebion’s son.” She took a step closer. “Hope has already told me quite a bit about Kallen, but from the sound of it, there’s still much more to learn about Kallen.”

Rebekah’s expression remained surprisingly calm. Only a single eyebrow arched when he called her a “little vampire.” “Little vampire?” She laughed dryly. “I’m over a thousand years old, darling. Usually, I’m the one who calls other beings ‘children.’ I have to admit, this is a new experience for me.” Then he returned to the subject of her fear. Rebekah took a step closer. “You’re confusing fear with instinct.” Her voice remained calm. “My body is telling me that there’s something standing before me that’s older and more dangerous than almost anything I’ve ever encountered.” “Of course it reacts to that.” A faint smile returned. “But fear means wanting to run away.” Rebekah spread her arms wide in a demonstrative gesture. “And as you can see, I’m still standing here.” Her eyes narrowed curiously. “So stop snooping around me, Wolf God, and tell me something more interesting instead.”

Over the course of more than a thousand years, Rebekah had seen many creatures—werewolves, witches, demons, and beings she herself would rather have forgotten. But when the massive figure emerged from the forest, even she fell silent for a moment. Her gaze wandered over the obsidian-red fur, through which starlight seemed to flow, up to those silver eyes. Even as Crimsonfang lowered his massive face to her level, Rebekah didn’t take a single step back. “My heart is beating, darling. That doesn’t mean I’m afraid of you.” She lifted her chin and looked directly into his otherworldly eyes. “Although I have to admit…” Rebekah sized him up again. “You’re far more impressive than the werewolves my family usually deals with.”
